How many times have we been told? I just told a newbie friend the other day: Always take the time to put the cover back on the auger...but when you're setting up and are in a hurry to get those lines down, and the song of the vexilar is playing, and the sun is going down, well, do as I say...

I was kinda thinking the same thing as there is not that much meat on that side of the finger! I would have used a paper towel and some electrical tape. Like my mom always says... The hurrier I go the behinder I get. Oh, and stop chewing your fingernails! Take care and N Joy the Hunt././JImbo

That happened to my dogs toe a couple years ago. Now the cover is the first thing I do after drilling. Good reminder, sorry you got an ooowwy

I had a roll of electrical tape in the bucket, so that and a handful of snow allowed me to stay out till the bite was over. I wouldn't have had it stitched either but because it was the skinny side of the finger it wouldn't stay closed. The vet said it's a bad place to get a cut.

And I don't bite my fingernails. They are worn down by constant exposure to the slime of large fish. If you don't believe that, look closely at the middle finger.

I don't wear my wedding ring when doing anything that involves risk. My dad got his hung up while jumping off a hay wagon while bailing hay and sliced his finger off. Stitches heal- no finger doesn't!

I just notice I got a near same scar right there too...wasn't from an auger though...from a kittyfish that was thrashing right when I removed the hook.
