33" walleye

For walleye over 30" subtract the length of your fish from 36" and multiply times 7 to determine how many of that size fish are caught in MN (not including border waters) in an average year.

Your fish was 33", so 3" x 7 equals 21, so 21 33" walleye are caught in MN in an average year.

Not sure which is more impressive, my fish or your response! That is exactly what I was looking for. Can I ask how this formula was derived?

Thanks again.

No thanks are necessary, it took me a couple of hours to drive home from work when it normally only takes a half hour and I just felt like being being a smartass. Who could possibly know how many fish that size are caught each year? What I can tell you is that was a nice fish! Congrats on the catch and great job on the release, that fish will have millions of eggs with great genes this spring.

I caught a 33 1/2" one a couple years ago and it had just spawned out. The weird thing was that I caught it up by Flin Flon MB. I didn't think they got that big up there. Does anyone know how old that fish would have been? By the way, I released it after a few pictures.

A fish that big could vary greatly in age depending on the body of water and also genetics. I'll take a stab in the dark and say mid to upper teens. The oldest walleye ever documented was 29 years old but I'm not sure how big it was.

Nice picture, unfortunately I was fishing alone and I didn't have my camera with so I didn't get a picture. I was trolling a deep diving Tail Dancer from Rapala in 25 feet of water and it was bouncing off the bottom when I caught it. I also caught a 22" and 19" walleye that day in Septmeber.

Pike Bay nice fish! Long but a skinny one. The up doesnt have a very good walleye fishery, Other than bay de noc. Lots of small fish. Erie is were the hogs are.

Nice fish PikeBay! I netted one that size (32") this summer out on Mille Lacs for my nephew. It was only his 2nd walleye he'd ever caught. Thank God for circle hooks and good drags!
