rusty ironMan
I've been reading this forum for the past 2 years and have seen many great ideas for portable mods. So I figured I would get the camera out and show of the latest additions to my Eskimo Quickflip II. -I opted for using a bucket seat and chair, rather than mounting boat seats. Half the time I'm on the lake I'm outside anyway. -Added 2 strings of LED lights from besthonLED, also mounted 2 1157 (19 LEDs) lights to point towards the holes. -Also put in a 12v fan from an old PC. Wired them all to switches in the compartment, along with a 12v power outlet.
Reynolds
Heckuva nice job on that mod How do you like your strip lights from BestHonLED? I bought a bunch of those strips myself and ended up needing only one strip in my one man shelter. I can' believe the amount of light those things put out
rusty ironMan
The LEDs work great!! I could get by with just the 2 strips. The 1157s really light up the corners (and they were less that 1/2 the cost of the strips). I'll never use a lantern again.
jwhjr
Looks nice, those lights are definitely bright.
FrontenacPike
Hey Rusty if I just wanted to run 2 strips of LED's how much light do they generate and how big of a battery would I need to get?
rusty ironMan
The 2-48 LED strips give off plenty of light to tie knots and see anything else in the house. Below is a picture without the flash. They do give off a slight blue tint, but it's no big deal. In terms of battery, I have a spare 12v 7amp (vexilar) battery that I'm using. It fits right under the bait bucket. From what I've read on other posts they will run for days off of one battery charge. A quick search on this forum for LED lighting will give you hours of reading. * photo was taken with a tripod, 5 second exposure, no flash
schweady
Thanks for the ideas, rusty.Any chance of some closeup pics and explanation on how you did the wiring for the strip lighting and fan, connections, etc.And how you got an audience with Lord Stanley's Cup?!? DzNuts
Looks great, Rusty. I hope I can get mine to turn out that nice. I'm guessing those other LED's are replacement 'bulbs' for a car. I like that idea, maybe I'll try something in red.
rusty ironMan
Here's a few closeups of the wiring. It is not very pretty and I need to clean it up a little. This picture has only one of the lights hooked up, but hopefully you'll get the picture. The terminal strips & fuse block came from RadioShack. As for the Cup... I went to high school (Bemidji) with Joe Motzko (of the 2007 Anaheim Ducks) and got to go to his parent's house when he had the Cup for the day. Good times... drank out of it and took 200+ pictures of it...

hooksetter
This is a great set up. Can you explain how you put together those 1157's? That would be a nice addition to my set up.
rusty ironMan
Here's how I made the 1157 lights. After ordering the lights I realized that I should've ordered 1156 lights. The 1156 are either on or off. The 1157s have a low and high light capability. An 1157 socket will have 3 wires, 1156 have 2. They are the same size. First drilled a hole in the end cap. Attached the ¾" pipe hanger to the end cap with a small stainless steal flathead bolt & nut. The pipe hangers have a recessed hole for the flathead screw/bolt. Then notch out the PVC pipe with a hacksaw, to fit the wires. Then assembled all the PVC parts with the wire. Connected the wires with 16 gauge butt spices to the socket. The socket has a snug fit in the coupler, so I did not glue it in. FYI, I don't know how the pipe hangers are going to hold up in cold weather. I found all the parts at fleet farm. Also saw the sockets at an auto parts store. I'm going to have the Mrs. sew together some Velcro strips so I can attach the wires to the poles in the fish house. That way if I want to have a little more light when pulling the sled off the ice I can just grab one of these, unhook it and use it like a flashlight or move it to the pulling end of the sled.
