I'm ready to pull the trigger and buy a climber, and pretty much locked in to Summit. Trying to decide which is best for seat comfort and versatility for bow and gun hunting. Who all uses Summit climbers, and which is your favorite and why? Thanks in advance to all responders. smile.gif

I have the viper classic which is steel vs. aluminum. It's heavier but quite a bit cheaper. The only thing I don't like about it is that I can't use it at work grin.gif That stand is awesome.

I recently bought the MegaBucks Viper Ultra from Cabelas. It weighs only 21 lbs, and packs for backpacking it very nicely. I found it to be very easy to use. I think it is rated for 300 lbs. All this for $180. I got it on sale as the regular price is $230. I don't know if it is still on sale.

Deitz I'll second your thoughts. I love my Vipor!!! Where we hunt everyone has stands set up locked and fastened. Well so do I but if I don't see what I'm looking for out of that stand I grab the Summit. Head out looking for fresh scrapes and set up 20 or so yards away. I had my wife make me a cover out of flease. Four pockets where I can put my water, calls, whatever. That is attached to the rail. Nothing like setting up deep in the woods where no one else can hunt because they don't have a stand set up there. Just my little secret. Don't tell anyone!!!!

I have the summit Golieth X5 and as far as comfort and ease of climbing you can't beat it. My buddy and I switched stands over the weekend( he has a lone wolf) and that thing is junk as far as I'm concerned. You can't get your feet in very easy to climb where summit has adjustable climbing stirrups. I'm an average sized man and there is not enough room for my but t on the lone wolf, I don't know how the big guys sit in it. The summit you can almost recline in(which can make it hard to stay awake) grin.gif. I would recommend the backpacker model though. It's a lot easier to carry.

I have a lone wolf sit and climb, so far I like it. I have yet to really put it through its paces but I think it will do just fine. I love how lite it is. easily carried on my back. One thing I did notice with it through, is that the seat is a bit narrow but not bad for my 165lb frame.

I like the sit and climb models like the Viper over the hand climber models like the Bushmaster. I sold my Bushmaster. One guy I hunted with at Ripley had a Summit sit and climb that folded flat that was nice. I think it was a Bullet Backpacker. Lone Wolf stands are nice as well but not much lighter and not as comfy.

For climbers I like the Summits. Wish I had a Lone Wolf Alpha with climbing sticks to try out.

My husband and I just bought two Summits off of hsolist (about $40 cheaper on each than Cabela's and free shipping). Anyway, they seem like great stands, really light, very comfortable, and easy to climb with. I got the Viper, he got the Goliath. So far we are very pleased, but have only used them once as we just got them last week. I would definetely buy another Summit.

well i had a viper and although it was very comfortable, it was a pain in the a#$% to carry. It was heavy, the straps dug into my shoulders, and i had to set it down every 100 yds or so to re-adjust it. The thing stuck out like two feet behind me so it would get snagged and caught up on every little twig or brush i walked by. once you lock it together tight enough so that it won't cling and clank while walking you need a pry-bar to get it loose. The summit skin that came with it did not stick at all, so when i finally tore it off it left a white residue all over my stand. When i e-mailed summit about it they never responded, talk about crappy customer service! The rubber coating on the cables rubbed off the second (and last time) i climbed a tree with it. I don't know maybe the stand that i had was just one bad one out of a good bunch. But i tried my buddys lone wolf climber and all i can say is WOW talk about light and easy to carry. i could walk for miles with that thing on my back and not even notice that its there. It's way easier to climb with then the summit also. It is expensive but its not much more then the viper and its a heck of a better stand in my opinion. Also this stand is totally quiet, probly the quietest stand on the market. And while the summit is probly more comfortable then the lone wolf for all day sits, i'll take quietness, ease of use, and easy portability over that any day, but thats just me. So Nova i hope this answers your question.

Also you have to consider what features are the most important to you for your perticuler hunting situation, if you have to walk along ways to get to your hunting spot, (like me) your going to want a lighter stand that folds flat, if your going to drive your four-wheeler all the way to your hunting destination then weight isn't that big of deal, if you have back problems or something similar you probly are going to want a very comfortable stand. So it really boils down to what your own needs are. Try a couple and pick what suits you the best.

Wow, it does and more. I do agree with what you are saying, they are a little heavier and unless you pack them just right can be noisy to carry. I only have to carry mine back in a half mile, but have found a way to pack it so it doesn't clank and have found my straps pretty comfy if you use the seat to pad your back. Thanks for the info.

I just bought an open shot summit this yr at duluth gander..Love it! Folds flat and is way quieter than that ancient thing I used before. Its light, fairly comfy I oculd use more though but for size and weight not complaing and its easy and pretty quiet to use. The only thing Id change is a bigger platform. the plat form is half the size of some of my hang on stands and that leaves me about a foot and a couple inches and maybe 2 1/2 feet wide by the time you put the seat there too. Gotta be careful moving around or standing up in that stand. just so I dont step out over the edge. Took some getting used to but its good now. about 197 dollars at gander when I got it in september.
