EXTREME
Pretty heavy frost up here in the Grand Rapids area. I felt like skipping work and going to sit in the stand....even without my bow
fishgetter
I know, I told my wife last night cool nights and morning I can smell the smell to. I am just pumped. People at work are sick of me talkig about it and so is the wife. I am taking my six yr. old again this yr. he is just as pumped. I had a hint of frost on the truck this morning here in Stewartville. but nothing heavy mostly water. I will sleep a total of about ummmmm 2 min. Fri. night maybe just spend the night in my stand. :-)
Nate McVey
I could hardly contain myself when I turned on the TV this morning at 5 am and it said 31 degrees! I ran downstairs like a kid on Christmas and threw my thermals and insulated coveralls into my scentlock bag........I love this time of year! How come the fiance and my coworkers don't get it
gr81
I am so glad there are other freaks like me out there. Thanks guys! I'll have to wait until Sunday though because I have to be in my friends wedding. What was he doing planning a wedding without consulting me first? fishgetter
Ouch what kind of friend is that. This is the best time of the year. My wife told me if she had to listen to me another week about hunting she would kill me. We are pulling the camper to the land this year and camping out, kind of like deer camp for bow hunters. Just me and 2 friends. Friends that would never get married on Bow Opener how wrong is that. Boss just came in see ya.
solocam
That wedding thing on opener or anytime during the hunting season is just wrong unless the honeymoon is a elk hunting trip.
DRH1175
Yes I hear ya!! This morning was great!!! I so wish I could have been in a tree instead of in the work truck!!! I can't wait to get out this weekend!!!
96trigger
My wedding Anniversary is this weekend In my defense, I wasn't that big in to bow hunting when we got married. But, I'm still open to ridicule, I'm such a (feel free to insert your own word). Somehow, I still manage to get out hunting. It definitely feels like fall is starting in SEMN. The sun is warm but the air and breeze are cool.

harvey lee
You got it Dietz. The North Dakota opener was in the high 80's to low 90's and I still dropped one. Yes, its more work but still had fun.Good luck to all this opener and please be safe.
fishgetter
It will be in the mid 30's in S.E. MN. this opener so it will have them moving. But like the guys said I am in the stand even if it is 100. I couldn't sleep last night bitter sweet, work will suck today. You would think I would be over this stuff not sleeping after bow hunting for the last 20 yrs. The first stand of the year always feels like I am a teen again doing it for the first time. Until you are dragging that darn thing out, the body just isn't as tough as it was back then. You guys have fun be safe and kill the big one I want pics on MON. morning. just got goose bumps god Sat. can't get fast enough.

Bassboy1645
ANOTHER yet cool morning in Ely, MN. Thyre talking snow showers by opener!!!! IM LOVING IT!!!! I put all my stuff together today. Bow, pack, knife, compass, scent sprays, and rubber tub of clothes. All I have to do is load up. Weather channel is predicting southerly wind at low to no exsisting speeds for sat morning so the stand is set with alternates of course! I only have 2 hrs to hunt though I got class at nine am. and the woman wants me over sat night. I havent seen her in three weeks and you better be sure Im gonna let her know its bow opener! Nah seriously though my school shedule lets me hunt everyday of the season so missing part of a day isnt gonna kill me. GOOD LUCK YALL!!
brassman
I have been stir crazy lately, been out for 2 session archery practices these past few days, hitting spot on at 30-40 yards (wont shoot past 35 yards) and my spot is going to be perfect for an evening hunt on Saturday, needless to say I'm pumped. Nate McVey
Well, here is the first story from today's opener. I woke up around 4:30 am and headed for my stand in the city hunt. I was dressed and in the woods by 5 am, but since I am in the city hunt, I did not mark my trail to my stand real well so I spent a good 20 mins. stumbling around looking for my pink flagging. Once I found it, I headed for the stand and found it right where I left it I climbed in right about 6 am, got comfortable and before I could pull my face mask on I heard them coming. It turned out to be a doe and 2 fawns which I was VERY excited about, but they stayed in the bushes and wouldn't give me a clear shot. I watched them walk away not knowing I was there, so they will be back. At about 6:45, a single doe came in from the other side, but also hungout just out of shooting range and disappeared almost as fast as she showed up. At 7, I climbed out of the stand and headed for work ........all in all it was great to be in the stand and great to see my breath rising into the sunrise dressed in full camo again, can't wait to do it again tomorrow, but for a little longer. I hope everyone else had a good day and I can't wait to read the reports.
beaverlakeman
nice calm cold morning. got in stand oh around 5:45-6, yeah i know got a late start. couldn't sleep much last night and when i did fall asleep it was a little hard to wake up. anyhow, had mom set up about 200 or so plus yards away and by the time i got settled in and quiet, get my mask on i sat for about 20 minutes and herd the loudest noise i have ever heard, then mom calls and said she shot one. turns out that the noise i heard was her arrow breaking through the shoulder blade. i never even got time to see a deer this morning. well, my turn is this evening. good luck everyone.figured i would pop in and report the morning... summit090706
Yes it was a bit cool, but boy was it nice to be out in the fresh air. Well I got on stand about 5:30 and at about 6:15 I had two Doe's walking in the CRP I was watching they were pretty far out but boy it was nice to see some right away. Then I see another Doe and she is just running back and forth about 200 to 300 yards in front of me going left then right (she looked crazy), then I see a fork come out and walk 50 yards from me. About 10 minutes later I see a bachelor party of 2 forks and a 6 all were to far out and I am trying to practice QDM (we will see how that goes though ) The about 20 minutes later I have a nice mature doe and yearly behind me and I am getting ready to draw back and I catch something out of the corner of my eye and basically right in front of me 10 yards away there are 4 Does 2 mature and 2 young ones. Long story short didn't get a shot off any any of them. Then about 30 minutes later a beautiful 8 pointer (not sure how it would have scored)outside of the ears comes through the CRP at about 50 yards, not shot again. Then leaving I see a Doe that was walking to my stand and on the other side a little fork also walking to my stand. All in all I saw 18 deer. Great morning, boy to I love this stuff hope everyone else got to at least see some..... Brad
