fish house insurance

My fish houses if custom manufactured were always covered on my auto policies. They were dedicated to the tow vehicle and were insured as a camper policy. These things now days are no different then a camper but manufactured as fish houses. You get a "toy hauler" then you enter another arena as it dual purpose, but any single door fish house custom manufactured you should easily be able to insure for its value.

Pull it down to your agents office if need be. When I had my Ultra Shack they could not believe it was a Fish House smile.gif

They just used the options, size and such and equated it to a camper rate. I just sent in a album of pics and the serial number and manufacturer info.

They asked if they could come look at it just because they had never seen such a thing, but getting it covered was no issue.

I put insurance on mine through american family they wrote it up as a camper with a $250 deductable two months later we had a hail storm, my fish house looked like a golf ball with all the dents. They came out looked at the house and gave me $4000 to reside it and my rates never went up.

alot of agents or companies don't insure them correctly....i.e under homeowners policy!! most home policies are standard for the state as to what they cover and if your house has wheels you are not properly covered unless it is on your homes property...plus like stated if you have a claim they can cancel your homeowners policy if you have a fishhouse claim and an actual home claim!!! do as stated and insure as a camper/trailer!!! best coverage and cheap usually!!!

My house on wheels is insured with a separate American Family camper policy. My agent said that since it is on wheels it has to be this way. He hadn't insured a fish house before and made several phone calls to make sure that he did it right. According to him my homeowners wouldn't cover it because it is on wheels if it came loose and flipped in the ditch.

I have been told my permanent house on Mille Laces (on skids) would be covered by my home owners policy. I doubt I would ver make a claim, unless it burnt down. I should talk with my agent about this.

I talked to my agent this morning and if I heard him right he said that home owners ins will cover it while its on your property. When off of your property there can be some issues if it is damaged or stolen. This seems to be a touchy issue with some gray areas. I wish I had a better understanding of the issue. confused.gif

I have a 28' enclosed trailer, and I had some stuff stolen out of it when up at millacs ice fishing, I didnt even notice stuff was missing until I got home. I reported it to my local police dept. and also called the police dept from milaca to report it, I called my insurance agent and asked if I was covered at all he said yes, my home owners will cover it. I had vehicle insurance through the same place that covers the trailer for $20 a year, and I thought they would be the ones covering, but the house insurance paid it.

cold one sd:

Mentioned earlier by Ozzie, most agents incorrectly apply it in the home owners area. You need to get a seperate rider or a recreational/camper policy for it in order to cover it during use.

Some might actually cover it within home owners, but I would make darn sure I have it writing and that they know the exact intended use of the covered item. Mine had a stipulation of " no over night on lake not occupied" clause to it. Didn't bother me as I never left mine alone, or even unhooked from the the truck.

Take pics of the house, get a current appraisal from the manufacturer, and tell the agent you need a camper policy or addendum to your auto policy to cover it.

Most think a box of wood nailed together when they hear (fish house) so you need to clarify its high end custom just like campers they insure by the hundreds.

Can be a real hassle I know, but make sure you understand your coverage and the insurance companies responsibilities.

Itemize any and all values of options/equipment that is not portable and left in the house. All of my stuff was hard wired and permanently mounted which upped the value quite a bit.

Some agents just dont want to do the ground work for you to get you covered simply because they don't know and or dont want the hassle.

Time for a new company if you have one of the such.

Good luck smirk.gif

My agent was with Farmers and she lived on the shoreline where I fish 75% of the time about 100 yards away. Her and her husband would watch me through the binoculors all the time. (lol)

with the homeowners the fish house is considered personal property and alot of personal property is not covered off the homeowners property...i.e lake.........if it is a wheel house get a camper policy and if you are to have items to worry about in the fish house get the personal property endorsement on the camper policy.

As I said in my earlier post, I have a separate camper policy for my wheel house. Someone on here said that if you haul an ATV inside the wheel house it can get a little touchy. I called my agent and asked him about this and he said that they insure a camper or cargo trailer about the same and it would make no difference if I haul my ATV or not. It seems like these days you have to make sure the gray areas are taken care of. I read a post once about some guys that were going ice fishing and stopped to buy supplies at a mall. While they were inside someone took their ATV and trailer. The homeowners insurance didn't cover it because it was hooked to the pickup. If they had unhooked the trailer from the pickup it would have covered the trailer, but an ATV needs a separate policy. Too complicated for an old coot like me. I depend on my agent to take care of these things for me.

    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
