Lost rod and reel

A couple of weeks ago I was musky fishing on Shamineau and on about my tenth cast I snagged my spare rod and reel and flung it out into about 10 feet of water. I saw it for a second and should have just jumped in after it but I hesitated and then it was gone. We spent about an hour trying to snag it but I was so [PoorWordUsage]ed at myself I just gave up. If anyone happens to recover it, I'd appreciate getting it back. It is brand new and I only used it once. I'll tell you the details about it and where I lost it to prove that it is mine.

I plan on heading up in a couple of weeks to try and recover it. The only problem is it is really weedy in that spot so I don't know if I will be able to drag anything through there or not. Any suggestions. We are going to bring my FIL's aqua view to see if we can see anything with it. I may have to just wait until next spring, but the reel will probably be toast by then. Oh well.

The Aqua Vu should help a ton... make sure you have a marker bouy ready.. as soon as you see it, drop it over board. As the weeds die ff it may or may not be easier to find. It doesnt cost you much to look for it, but it may be very difficult to get back.

Ditto on the camera. Also try jigging a Heddon Sonar lure. Sounds crazy but that lure has helped snag up lost rods for me many times.

If it is only 10ft deep and the weeds aren't extremely bad, you (or someone else) "could" swim down there and get it by hand? If the water is clear enough, all you need is a pair of goggles (fins are nice too), then go get it...I bet it wouldn't take too long to find it, if you did this... otherwise as mentioned, the camera is a good idea.

I had this unfortunate experience about a month ago bass fishing snagging it the same way. Let's just say everything in the boat is put away when I fish now. I snagged it and lost it and I too hesitated and then kicked myself. I marked it with my GPS asap to at least have an idea and then tried big lures which couldn't get through the weeds and then tried my Aqua Vu. Yes this was nice to have but that still was looking for a needle in a hay stack when it's weedy. I decided to drop my 20lb navy style anchor and dredge back and forth. I made 3 passes about 10 feet each pulling it with the main motor and there it was pinned to the anchor. This would be the best solution. And I suppose some will criticze me for tearing up the weeds or whatnot but it's fall and as mentioned before, the weeds are either dead or are dying right now anyways. Weeds are not nearly worth the amount of a rod and reel combo! Best of luck to you and hope my .02 works out for you!

Yeah I thought about dragging my anchor, and will probably resort to that if nothing else works. I'll see if I can rig something up that will get through the weeds, but also grab the rod if it makes contact. I'll also rig something up on a long pole in case we spot it with the camerea or I'll try and snag it with a big spoon.

Like stated above, if it was my pole I would be grabbing my goggles out of my storage area and diving in. The best and quickest way to get keys, poles and other stuff.

I don't think diving for it is an option because it is so weedy. If the camera reveals that it is not as bad as I think, maybe I will, but it is getting cold out there now. I'll bring the goggles with just in case.

it is getting cold for how much of a set-up.....weeds or no weeds if you know the general area anchor up dive down and star feeling the bottom!!! Good luck

If it's weedy make sure you take a buddy, ou never know, I'm one of those cautious types(every year people drowned by getting tangled in weeds) have him give you less than a minute each time down, if not up he' gotta come in.

If it is clear water I would go for a mask and snorkel. You only need to swim down a foot or two and should have a pretty good view. I would drop a couple markers before you start looking so you can keep track of where you are.

I'd snorkel for it also. If it clear you'll just need to cruise over the weeds.

One day on the water with a friend mine who was having trouble casting. He rats nested his bait caster a few times. The last time he got frustrated and had a tantrum then threw it over board. Thinking quick, I figured I'd like to have the rod so I dove in and grabbed it before it got to the bottom. He was pretty surprised that I dove in. I crawl back in the boat with the rod. Now he wasn't so mad at the rod and wanted it back.

Were you ever able to find it? I was up on Shamineau on Sunday morning and didn't see anyone snorkeling around for it.
