perch sweethart. I think I am really going to like the little stiffer backbone on this one.

You will like it that is for sure. I have only one of these but I do like it. Light enought for crappies and perch but it will manage a walleye nicely. I always feel they are like a ML rod.

Again, it was a lot of fun talking fishing . It's something that gets me excited to hit the Ice.

Thanks to all who attended, the sponsors, Pro Staff, Thorne Bros and Matt Johnson for getting things together.

To all who came to the seminars amd asked questions be sure to let us know how things go on the Ice. If there's any more questions let us know and we'd be glad to help any way we can.

Good fishing,

Corey Bechtold

Thanks to all at Thorne Bros and Matt Johnson for putting this all together. Deitz helped me get my first Thorne rod (Perch sweetheart) and I am sure that it wont be the last.... Im dreaming of a walleye and panfish rod at the ice show perhaps. Also thanks to Pat for helping me get the right GPS chip. Awesome seminars that I learned a ton at and now it changes how I am looking at my first ice strategy.Even got a couple of awesome door prizes. grin.gif

It's great to get together with a bunch of people who really have a passion for ice fishing. Thorne Brothers were a great host and really let us have the run of the place. Top quality equipment and very knowledgeable and friendly staff.

Thanks to Matt, all the sponsors Thornes Brothers and all those FM folks who managed to make it there. It was a great time!

Thanks to everyone. All the info will help us all to be better fishers. The only thing better to learn from is to actually fish with every one. Words are always great. However actions are often better.

Thamks again. Hope that we can do the same next year

Another big thank you to Thorne Bros, sponsors and everyone else behind the scenes who made the event possible. The seminars were fantastic. Great job Matt and Corey on the plastic seminar. I think that could have been a two hour seminar.

Cant wait to feel em fightin on the end of my sweetheart again.

Unfortunetly I couldn't go on Saturday but I did something on Sunday that just might make all of you jeolous. I used my gas auger to drill about 30 holes to plant 2ft blue spruce pine trees in my woods. It sure felt great to hear that 2 stroke fire up and stand over her like I was on Mille Lacs or Gull lake. Kind fun!!! Strange looks from the cars going by but worth it. So if you have the itch go out and drill some holes in your front yard, just remember to replace your blades before first ice!!!! wink.gif

I have a bunch of pictures from the event and I will get those up later this week once things slow down a bit.

Thanks to everyone who attended, the event was a lot of fun! I had a great time chatting with everyone and it's always nice to put a few more face with some of the names. And of course, its always nice to see familiar faces too smile.gif

Starting in January we will have "Wednesday Night Seminars" at Thorne Bros. Every Wednesday we will give a seminar and bring in different guests from different companies, guides, resorts, etc. And of course, you can expect a little discount too wink.gif

Matt I see in the one picture the new Marcum rod case they came out with are you guys carrying these yet? If so what is the price? What do you think of them? Are they going to get too bulky? They look like a sweet setup to me but I haven't seen one in a store yet.

We will be carrying them soon. I believe the IcePac (holds the flasher as well) will be retailing for about $59.99 and the RodPac (doesn't hold the flasher) will be retailing for about $39.99.

The nice thing about the IcePac is that it performs like a golf bag and is easy to carry with the shoulder strap. It also has the leg-stand like a golf bag too. Pretty cool if you ask me...

Ya I need another rod case like a hole in my head but they keep adding things to them that make a person want to keep buying. Matt keep me informed when you get them in stock I will be giving you a hollar on them.

    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
    • We have bought a new boat, which we will be picking up this spring. It is an Alumacraft Competitor 165 sport with a 90 horse Yamaha motor. I will be buying and installing a trolling motor,  wondering if I can get some recommendations on what pound thrust I will want for this boat?  Also, I will be selling my old boat, is there a good way to determine the value on an older boat ( mid-80's with a 75 horse 2-stroke  Mariner motor)  I will appreciate any help with these questions.
    • Sketti...  not out of a jar either!
    • Lol yeah I watched that
