Who makes a good rod holder for shore fishing?

I usually just use whatever sticks and rocks are available myself... I have a small camp saw and lockback knife in my shorefishing kit just for that purpose.

I've made some excellent holders out of 5/16 steel rod welded to some chainlink fence pipes corner poles 2" line poles 1&1/2" toprail 1&1/4" pick your size cut length, I use 12-16" then weld a 16-18" steel rod 6" up on pipe,The rod sticks into sand, between rocks,in mud.The handle of the pole goes into the pipe, they work great! cool.gif

Here's mine. Its made out of one of those bird feeder hanger rods. Just cut the top off and bent it into the shape I wanted by heating it up with a torch. I've forgot it once and I got all the way home and turned around and went right back to get it at 5am. Thats what the white tape is on there for now. Its automotive reflective tape and so when I do my last scan of the area to make sure everything is picked up it stands out bright as day with the red LED head lamp.

Smart move I also had to go back more than once! Did same as you the numbers for boats and lettering have blank 2x3" silver reflector squares all my night stuff has it. It also keeps ya from trippin over things,I even got extras cause I have to drive back 50 miles If I get all the way home before I remember I forget whatever crazy.gif

Rob,

A basic propane tourch seems to be a little undersized for that hunk of metal. Did the guy have a welding torch that made it? Also, did he have some metal fab stuff to bend it accordingly.

Another buddy of ours just used PVC, cutting about a two foot piece, and cutting one end to a point and jam it into the sand. It also helped to put a cut in the long way to get the sand out....Not very functional on the rocks or hardpack tough....unless you strap it right to your chair.

No reflective stickers needed here, you loose this one, and you probably have enough left for four more at home.

Does anyone else have a cartoon bubble of that chair waterskipping across the river as Pier is responding to nature's call?

Don't know, but sortof seen that happenned before to somebody...LOL's, well chair jumped into water. That's why that little lawn chair needs to be anchored down. Then there's that one time when a buddy of mine said his rod was secured down by some rocks. Next thing, round goes flying through the air about good ten plus feet and diving into water. I dragged fish bottom to get his rod back. grin.gif

I have safety precautions in place... grin.gif....I usually use two big rocks to hold the chair if I have to leave to relieve I'll free spool or real in the rig so far so good.

I have envisioned diving in to save the Tekota 500 and Boss 4 rod though!

Pier,

All you would have to do is take a couple of curved metal steaks (like ones you hold a clay pigon thrower down with)and steak down the rear bar of the chair that rest's on the ground. When you are in rocks, use rocks, but in sand or dirt I am sure you could use some hold down steaks for chair.

Early in the year they are thick and as the summer moves on the action becomes hit or miss. I haven't tried it there for a couple of weeks so I really not sure if they have been around or not. At least its not too far out of your way if they aren't biting.
