bigeyes
Just wondering what people who have had experience with these think. I know they sold well last year, but do they work good. I think last year was the 1st year, any design flaws the Co. fixed or still needs to fix or are these things solid.
Guest
bigeyes,I used one all of last year and I really liked it. No problems whatsoever, it really ran like a champ. I will say though that it does not give off near the amount of heat that my old sunflower did.------------------Paul[email protected]
BLACKJACK
I liked mine last year, no problems. And the best part, no headaches!

Crappieman
Got mine for christmas and loved it. No headaches and very portable. You will need to carry the tanks though. This a great heat source if you are on the move
Deitz Dittrich
I also bought one last year, I burnt a hole in my portable with my sunflower and got angry with it... As stated before, these MR Buddies dont give off as much heat, but also dont burn your house or melt a hole in it... It also has auto shut off if O2 is in short demand! I really like mine.. well worth the investment!
Guest
Good heaters, safe and clean, use too much fuel if you are just using one-pound tanks. If you can refill your own one-pound tanks these are the way to go. Only give off half the heat of the bigger sunflower but no odor and no headache. I will never go back to using my sunflower in the fish house again, saving it to use in the garage to warm up my fingers.
Dan97
I use my Buddy to heat both the portable and my 8x8 hardside. GREAT heater!!!! Not too good in the wind, but great almost every where else.Dan------------------[email protected]
Steve Foss
I've got a Black Cat that only puts out about 4,000 BTU. Thinking about buying a Buddy, cause they do better. But how long will a 1lb canister last if the Buddy's cranked all the way up?
Guest
I used a Buddy heater most of last winter. Compared to all of my other heaters, I liked it best. It doesn't take up much room, it's light weight and doesn't fume. I am running it on a five pounder connected with a hose. I keep one spare can along in case I run dry. The 1# cans will last 4-6 hours depending on whether or not it's on high or low heat setting. Good iinvestment for $99.....T
Steve Foss
Thanks for the info TBone. Guess I'll look for a 5-pounder. Beats keeping stocked adn lugging a bunch of 1-pounders if the Buddy will suck up two a day.
Guest
Will these keep a 1 man trap warm?
Steve Foss
Yeah, my Black cat will keep a 2-man warm unless it's below zero, and the Buddy puts out twice as much in BTUs.
Guest
I use mine in a Fish Trap II, keeps me and a partner warm all day. I bought one with elerctic start but sometimes I have to light it anyway when its really cold. Watch where you put your jig though, it has a tendency to melt the line pretty easy. Lost a few jigs in the past doing that. Good Fishin, Matt.
Guest
I'm glad someone mentioned "burnoffs" on this subject. I used to keep my heater in the fishing area. When I used the sunflower in a one man trap, I lost some fish to burnoffs from the heater. Now with the Buddy heater, I have it sitting on the bridge board near the back on my second seat. When it's back there, it's out of the way and still keeps the entire shelter warm. On a really cold day, you might get some skim on the holes once in awhile but it's still better that losing a good fish to a burnoff..........T
Lip RIPPER!
The heater worked great in my one man Fish Trap. I also bought a re-filler at Cabelas to fill the one pound tanks off of of my 20 pounder and has saved me quite a bit of $$$ too.

Dave
With the new style LP tank valves, you can't refill the 1-pounders from your 20-pound tank anymore, correct?
danny berg
I put a 8 x 12 - 3 season porch on the house last fall and when I am not out in the portable I use the Mr Buddy to keep the porch warm enough to drink a cup of coffee and read the Sunday Paper, without having to bundle up. Lip RIPPER!
Dave, I guess I haven't tried the new tank yet. I still have 4 older ones that are full. Probably will try it tonight though after you brought that to my attention. Does anybody know the answer to that question?
