Just wondering what people who have had experience with these think. I know they sold well last year, but do they work good. I think last year was the 1st year, any design flaws the Co. fixed or still needs to fix or are these things solid.

bigeyes,

I used one all of last year and I really liked it. No problems whatsoever, it really ran like a champ.

I will say though that it does not give off near the amount of heat that my old sunflower did.

Bigeyes,I used mine all last season and had no problem. Lit every time and stayed nice and toasty in the otter with the buddy heater on.and that was leaving the two vents on the sides open.Great little heater, you wont be disapointed.

I also bought one last year, I burnt a hole in my portable with my sunflower and got angry with it... As stated before, these MR Buddies dont give off as much heat, but also dont burn your house or melt a hole in it... It also has auto shut off if O2 is in short demand!

I really like mine.. well worth the investment!

Good heaters, safe and clean, use too much fuel if you are just using one-pound tanks. If you can refill your own one-pound tanks these are the way to go. Only give off half the heat of the bigger sunflower but no odor and no headache. I will never go back to using my sunflower in the fish house again, saving it to use in the garage to warm up my fingers.

I used a Buddy heater most of last winter. Compared to all of my other heaters, I liked it best. It doesn't take up much room, it's light weight and doesn't fume. I am running it on a five pounder connected with a hose. I keep one spare can along in case I run dry. The 1# cans will last 4-6 hours depending on whether or not it's on high or low heat setting. Good iinvestment for $99.....T

I use mine in a Fish Trap II, keeps me and a partner warm all day. I bought one with elerctic start but sometimes I have to light it anyway when its really cold. Watch where you put your jig though, it has a tendency to melt the line pretty easy. Lost a few jigs in the past doing that.

Good Fishin, Matt.

I'm glad someone mentioned "burnoffs" on this subject. I used to keep my heater in the fishing area. When I used the sunflower in a one man trap, I lost some fish to burnoffs from the heater. Now with the Buddy heater, I have it sitting on the bridge board near the back on my second seat. When it's back there, it's out of the way and still keeps the entire shelter warm. On a really cold day, you might get some skim on the holes once in awhile but it's still better that losing a good fish to a burnoff..........T

I put a 8 x 12 - 3 season porch on the house last fall and when I am not out in the portable I use the Mr Buddy to keep the porch warm enough to drink a cup of coffee and read the Sunday Paper, without having to bundle up.

Dave, I guess I haven't tried the new tank yet. I still have 4 older ones that are full. Probably will try it tonight though after you brought that to my attention. Does anybody know the answer to that question?

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
