Just got back from a week long trip up north. Fishing was pretty good and 20 fish days were not uncommon, granted it was a northern lake that doesn't get much pressure. So thats probably about average on a scale of being a good or bad day of fishing. I found fish to be in full swing of their summer patterns, except the slop bite was not as productive as it usually is this time of year.

Patterns that were productive were docks, deep weedlines, and any type of rock (shallow or deep). For the docks I found ribbontail worms and jigs to produce the best. For the deep weedlines and deeper rocks a dropshot and jig worked the best, they would always hit on the first drop which led me to believe they were pretty active, I also got a couple on midlake humps with crankbaits. A pattern that proved to be the best for bigger fish were shallow rocks that had sharp drops right next to them. In the lowlight periods of the day a zara spook would pick of the fish up on the rocks, and during the day a tube worked along the drop proved to be best. The docks also produced quality 16-18 inch fish which doesn't happen to often on this lake, so it was a good surprise. All in all it was a good week of fishing and sure beat going to work. I'll be out on tonka prefishing for a tournament tommorrow.. will hopefully give a report after the tournament on sunday, just a small club one, maybe 10 guys.

Well I finally found my lost school of fish that have been hiding from me, found them on an inside deep weedline turn that comes out of a very deep point and then comes up onto a 10' to 8' flat covered with clumps of coontail and man they are in there thick. The good thing about the spot there in is that point is fished by walleye guys and has never been known for holding bass.

The lures I used green pumkin tube 1/8 oz, senko, jigs, swim jigs and even a few on the buzz bait, the biggest ones came on the weightless senko.

All the fish are in the 17" to 20" with the exception of a few in the 15" to 16" range. Then all the fishing came to an end when a home owner came right into where I was fishing and anchored and started to drag the bottom looking for is anchor he lost the day before that's fishing.

This fishing season has been my first serious fishing season thus far, thanks to the addition of a boat. I fish in the north eastern metro now living in white bear, and this is my first experience with these lakes being I grew up in savage/burnsville my whole life. Here is what has been successful so far for me...

I don't dock fish often because I am in a 16ft lund, no trolling motor, so it is either drift or anchor...

Scum frogs...Never fished them before this season. I didnt have much confidence but when I was buying gear, I bought 2 bronze eyes. I have had great success so far this year. In the scorching sun in the middle of the day, when the bass are trying to stay cool under pads/grass, as well in the evenings about 8-830.

Senkos...great success with swim senkos, texas rigged with bullet sinker or weightless. Best results now, edges of top water vegetation or 8-12 fow. original senkos...rigged weightless wacky. colors, green/black speckle, green/pumkin, blue and purple.

Spinners...most success with 1 colorado and 1 willow leaf combined. for some reason the more expensive ones, i.e. booyah and the like, run truer and have nicer skirts.

Cranks...Just starting to go into crank mode. much success with rattlin' raps in 8-12fow. tick them through the deep weedlines. tiger, and blue/green shad

Swim baits...northland swimming minnow, many pike with this lure but also bass.

Frankly, I have pick up a lot of great tips from this forum. thanks to ray and deitz. hopefully i'll meet some of you in the FBL.

Thanks guys

Right after I got done writing that My buddy called me and told me he watched 3 hmong fishing on that deep point for walleye and they caught 15 bass not a one under 4 pounds and six of them between 5 and 5 1/2 pounds and kept them all so he confronted them at the boat launch and looked at them and weighed them and also tried to explain the importance of selective harvest and should they should put some of them back he said they told him to f#@* off so he called the game warden and he got within 3 min because he was already heading to the lake and the warden even tried to explain the importance of selective harvest and they would not listen. But they made the mistake of telling the warden about all the bass they had in the freezer that now they had enough for a big family fish fry so the warden was leaving with them to go to there house's and check the freezers. If they would take the time to understand our rules and laws things like this would not happen to them or maybe they don't care. I know this should have been in a different post but it just follows what posted about five minutes ago. This is just fustrating.

Shore fishin today 1 bass and 2 pike. I am in the process of perfecting the zv-rig(ya, thats right zv).

Well anyways I fishing on the pier at laclavon and all of the sudden 6 8yo girls go jumpin in the water right where I am fishing. They had there mom there, I wanted to say something but Im only 13 and dont have alot of leverage. Also there are signs that say "no swimming or Diving". Then they go onto the pier and start jumping off, I said nothing. Next thing I know there are 2 moms with 5 kids there. I hear them talking about selling fish to make money(If they could only catch them though, LOL). I had no proof of this so I said nothing Then they catch a 15 inch pike. They ask if I could take it off because they were afraid. I take it off and commence to through it back but then they were like NO NO NO I we are keeping It. So, I try to convince them to throw it back telling them about the y bones and the little amount of meat. They put it on a stringer and I just go back to the zv rig. I picked Up some trash and found 10$ in bobbers. Then I left.

Next time I am bringing regs. and a cell phone, and I am going to be vocal about rules. The reason I am really ticked is that there is a public beach on the other side of the lake, and a very nice beach 2 miles away.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
