61"er out of Big Detroit???

Recommended Posts

I suppose anything is possible, but I would be very surprised. There was a 60" caught on Cass a few years ago, along with several 58" fish from other lakes.

Coming from Big Detroit kind of surprises me because the fish have not been in there that overly long.

Extremely doubtful. I know a 51 incher was caught on opening day. Until I see the pic of the fish on a measuring board I'll assume it's completely fictional or a big stretching of the truth.

pretty unlikely. The time frame for growth since they were first stocked in Big D in 1989 just don't add up. I know that anything is possible, but the likelihood is down in the 0.001% probability range.

for reference Louis Spray's world record 69-11 muskie measured in at 63.5". The MN state record muskie was 56" long.

again, this probably didn't happen, but there are a lot of dreamers out there, and maybe I will be proven wrong on this.

It is true, I saw the picture of the guy with the 61". Steph had the picture at The Pub last week, the guy was in waders fishing from shore. The guy has a reputation of being a good stick, was fishing walleyes and hooked the big boy.

GO TO THE PUB AND ASK STEPH TO SHOW YOU THE PIC.

Who's going to drive up there to see this supposed picture?

Scan it and post the picture. There are TONS of people in the musky community that would love to see this fish.

Like I said before "Until I see the pic of the fish on a measuring board I'll assume it's completely fictional or a big stretching of the truth." I can show a pic of the 52" I caught last year and claim it's 65 inches- doesn't make it true.

Not trying to be a Naybob of Negativity here, but these silly claims pop up all the time on muskie sites online and they all end the same way. If it's true, show us the documentation of the new state record. Until then, it's just another Internet rumor and not really worthy of serious discussion.

Yeah, I know. It still is funny though.

Remember the one with the 5 pound pike in the mouth of another pike? I had a guy email me that one, along with the Holland fish and claim they were the same situation. The fish was "netted" at boatside. LMAO. Some people.

I heard a local beer establishment in the DL area purchased a replica of a 60" fish to stir up some business and claim it was caught in the area. I see the reports have already started.

Could be legit, but 61", Come on let's go with a 56 or 57"er.

I didn't know if I wanted to post this because I didn't want to add to the rumor mill... Even if I did see a picture, a 61" ski would be hard to believe. But if someone could come forward with a pic, it would be cool.

If the report came from a tavern it probably sounded like this...

"Ssssssum gbuddie my sssssister's cuzin' knows jussst caught a fffrrrfffiffxty ncher on m- fBig D'troit on a flu fffflu, hickup, and a ccccrappie mennow." grin.gif

Good luck,

I don't think the businesses in DL are trying to start any rumors. I heard the reason that we have not seen a picture is because the fish was slung over the guy's shoulder, and I think it shows that the fish was handled very poorly when it was caught out of season by a walleye fisherman. I think the people who saw the picture didn't question the size though.

I find it hard to believe that with a fish of that size, even if it was out of season, that no one even talked to DNR Fisheries about it. The Area manager said he hadn't heard anything about it when I spoke to him at work this morning.

Sorry, but a picture being passed around in a bar is not going to convince me.
