Which would it be and why?

st.croix 6foot 8inch medium extra fast avid series. is the best for pithing jigs and verticle but, i also use it for rigging.

$200. That sounds expensive to me. I would go with a St. Croix medium light in the 6'6" to 7' range. Good luck.

I just picked up a Limit Creek 6'9" ML "smoothie". It hasn't been run through all the paces yet, but I have used it for jigging, both verticle and drifting, and split shot rigging. I used 8/3 fireline crystal and I could feel the lightest taps and bottom changes. Next weekend I will be putting it through the wringer on Red Cedar in WI (smallies, largemouth, northerns and walleyes). So far it is a light, responsive rod, really cast the fireline a mile.

Personally, my current favorite is a 7' ML St. Croix Avid, but there are other good brands too.

I liked what Picks said with the 6'9" Limit Creek ML, as well as fish2live's pick with the 6'8" ML Avid. I think if you're looking for one rod to do it all, length has to play a major consideration, whereas power could be M or ML. I like the extra feel of the ML's, and there are seemingly more fast action rods in a ML on the market.

I'd prefer a little longer rod for rigging, and a little shorter rod for jigging, and for pitching, the 6"9" is perfect to suit my needs.

If an HMG would come in that crucial "do-it-all-length", I'd consider that rod as well for that price range. Good rod blanks like the ones above-mentioned are a big consideration, so any of the above blanks in a custom rod would work nicely too.

Check them all out at a place where you could compare them side by side!

Not sure the name, but the bait shop near Stillwater next to the cafe carries Limit Creek. My ex bought a Medium light rod for me for Xmas a couple of years ago and it's become my favorit rod by far! It's light enough to make pannie fishing super enjoyable, yet stiff enough for the occational bass and northern. Great rod!

LImit creek would be the easy choice for me, got one and love it more than my croix rods

I'm not sure if Limit Creek still does this, but mine came with a life time unconditional warranty. As the salesman said, they'll replace if my dog bites the tip off, or my wife breaks it in two during an argument. Works for me! Ended up breaking the tip off just after buying it and they handed me a new rod.

I had my mind set on a St Croix avid 6'6" ML Fast action Avid rod.. But lo and behold, Gander Mountain didnt have one.. What a Shock!

I was looking over this site and saw a thread where alot of people liked the Shimano Crucials? thoughts on them?

Also, what would be a good reel for something like this?

I'm totally overwhelmed with all the choices a person has... Just saw a $649 rod at GM, ouch! I also found a nice rod/reel combo, a St croix w/shimano reel. I saw price of $179 and almost walked up to the counter with it.. I then noticed the second sticker of $229 for the reel. Back it went. =)

I have been looking for a new reel for my limit creek, I liked the GM metal series, but it didn't come in a 20 series, My brother just got a new pflueger president, I will see how that is before I drop 60 clams on it. For now I am using an 8 year old pinacle deadbolt lmtd. Still a good reel, maybe I don't need a new one.
