Bobby Bass
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Hall of Fame broadcaster Herb Carneal, whose smooth baritone narrated Minnesota Twins games for the past 45 seasons, died Sunday morning of congestive heart failure. He was 83. Carneal was part of the club's radio play-by-play team for all but the first year of the team's existence in Minnesota
boatfixer
Definitely a sad day for the state of Minnesota. One of the most recognizable voices in all of sports. My condolences to the Carneal family. We will miss you Herb!!!!!
Scott M
Yeah, it is sad. Bob Casey last year, Carneal this year. We're running out of links to the old Twins teams.
HossFisher
I believe it was about this time last year when Kirby Puckett passed away. It is going to be a sad opener without Carneal! First time in 45yrs without him
toughguy
Herb will always be THE voice of the Minnesota Twins for me. His voice always reminded me of listening to countless Twins games on 830 with my Grandpa who died about 20 years ago. Luckily my Grandpa got to see them win it all in '87 and even made it to game 7. One of the greatest thrills of his life I'm sure. Like Ray Christiansen, Herb wasn't on top of his game in the end, but for me the nostalgia made up for the slip ups, and missed calls. Twins on 1500 without Herb just won't be the same. Not that it will stop me from listening. RIP Herb you will be missed....TOUCH EM ALL!!!
fishing tech
When you talk about class and dedication the Twins have taken a hit in the last year. Bob and Herb were both and will be deeply miss. I am just sorry that my kids won't have the memories of the Twins that I have. How do you replace a guy like Herb? R.I.P. and if you have any connections up there with the big guy put in a good word for the Twins. Thanks For the memories!!!!!!!!!!
schweady
Just listened to a few Carneal mp3 files on the startribune site. Some great memories of a classic voice calling a Carew steal of home, Killer's 500th, Twins winning the AL pennant in '87... Good times...

woodsandwaterguy
Yes what a great voice with an even better man behind it. One of the nicest persons in the world, had an awesome life and an amazing career. Never again will there be an offical "voice of the minnesota twins". The radio broadcasts just wont be quite the same. At least we know hes up there hanging out with loved ones which im sure include Kirby and Bob. Touch em all kirby puckett touch em all. May they all RIP.
