lake access question

There's a lake I want to fish that has no public access. There is a dead end road that the lake is litteraly 10 feet from. There's "no parking" signs along this stretch where the road is very close to the lake and there's also a spot where I could probably just drive my jeep onto the ice to park. With the road right-a-ways I should be able to just park on the ice next to the road right? I never seen any "no trespassing" signs anywhere along the road.

sure.....then if by chance anyone asks you (ie..cops) you can say you tried to stop but you lost control and the vehicle stopped on the ice so you thought while your there why waste an oppertunity so........actually i know there is usually a right of way but i am not sure about driving across them....

I would try and find a plat for the area. See who owns the property you think you can drive across. If its public you will probably be O.K., if its private, best talk to the Owner first. I would start with the city hall and then county office after that. Some stores like Gander have plat map books for sale for many different parts of the state.

Most county web sites have plat maps. If you know the # of the section it is in or the name of the sub-division if it is developed you can zero in on it. If you know an address close to it you can zoom out then zoom in on the area in question.

Owners, boundries and rights of way should be clearly mapped.

I'm not sure about all counties but it is easy to search on the Dakota County web site.

If its a county road I would check with the county to see if the signs are legiment, township road the same, some times people that own houses that are ploted wink.gif around a lake will do anything to keep the lake private, like posting no parking signs.

Ask permission first...You'd be surprised how willing most landowners are when you go out of the way to ask. If that fails, check with local laws prohibiting parking and access. If this land is private, chances are someone is protecting their private lake and has posted the signs there themselves. Or maybe someone refused to ask first and has p.o'd the owner.

I was told by my local CO that if the water was up to the side of the road there was noting they could do to stop you from getting access but far as the no parking signs those are probaly legal if there are two signs dont park between them or you could get a ticket
