Sounds good! I don't remember what we were using last year but Channels biting on lures under the ice is fun! We'll need to get that methane hole thingy marked somehow...wouldn't want anybody going noodling! Anybody from around there want to do that before people start showing up?

Remeber, These fish WILL pull your stick down the hole if left alone only for a minute...Right Fish? Course, If your Fishhead, You'll catch it back again!

Well if all goes well I will be heading there with bells on.. As long as my shifts don't change after the first of the year..

Looking forward to meeting the gang and taunting the kitties through the ice.

Scenic Tackle will also be donating tackle packages.Their Glow Devils and Angel Eyes are hot on the ice.
TSJigs will be donating Stinger Jigs. These jigs have a rigid wire stinger molded into the head. They are great through the ice on larger game fish.
Catch-n Tackle will be donating Ring-N Grubs(a personal favorite of mine smile.gif)Ring-n Tubes and Bio Bait.I think the Bio Bait is going to a hot item this season.
And of course I will be donating a Minnesota River Catfish trip and a boat ride you won't believe in a River Pro. smile.gif

Hey Chemist I hope you can make it.We had a good time last year!

I'll definitely be there, sounds like a blast. Since I'm not all that familiar with the lake, will it be safe getting out to that stretch of the lake? I know that there is a "methane hole" area somewhere out there that we should be cautious around.

I have never "iced" a cat. Spent a lot of time playing with them on Red Lake River but never any where else. If I show is someone willing to spend a little time showing me the rope of winter fishing them? What do I need to bring?

computergeek; welcome to the board. I'm sure you will get plenty of help and good advice. I'm not one with alot of catting through the ice experience. But I'm going to try and be there as will. If I do not run out of catfish before then I will bring some catfish chowder. It is good and will help keep everyone warm.

Keep setting that hook

Catfish1,

I would love to make it but it is over 500 miles round trip, that is a long way to travel for a couple hours of fishing. I don't mind making the trip but I need to know that I am going to learn something or have someone show me how to play the game.

You will have a good time at the Cool Cats.We plan on demonstrating some techniques and tackle and talk about what to look for when hunting cats through the ice.Thats what this event is all about.Helping each other out to get on some fish and learn a thing or two.Plus some good ole lies and BSing. smile.gif

That catfish chowder sounds good! You better make it catfish1! smile.gif

There are a bunch of different types of bait used out there. Cut bait, minnows, fat heads whatever. I will have minnows and fatheads. If I get a truck or there is a decent road out I may bring out the permanent house. Nothing fancy but may be a good storage area.

I fish The horseshoe chain once a year in the spring and have always wanted to get back out there in the winter and pull up those nice cats through the ice. Best tasting fish there is, Baked with cajun seasoning.
Looks like you are going out on the 22 landing?
Is the ice usually not a worry out there even with the current?
Can't wait!

I have been using the boat launch off 22 lately and have seen a few cars and small trucks driving on.
I am not that brave. We need a little more ice before I am going to risk my truck.
We should easily have it by Cool Cats time.
There is another place where you can get on the further down the lake on 22 also.
Hard to miss it with the "road" going out.

Fished the Shoe yesterday and the cats were pretty picky and did not have much interest.I only managed to get 3 but two of them were pretty decent. One went over 7lbs.

I can't wait till the cool cats get together! The shoe is my favorite destination in the summer so why wouldn't it be my favorite in winter too.
Will anyone be shuttling with wheelers or do you think everyone will be just driving out by then?
What is the normal set up for icing cats? I would assume that jigheads and minnows would work nice?
Thanks Dave

Horse Shoe is a cool lake.I fished it once in open water and had a blast.
I think we should have enough ice to drive out.Its going to be cold for the next week and that should thicken it up good.I haven't been to the SHoe for a couple weeks now but I wonder if they are not driving in some areas all ready.
I have had my best luck with jigging spoons.I have been using 1/4 glow devils. Both red glow and the chatruese green are good colors.I just tip with a hunk of bait or a minnow.
I have also caught them on a bobber with a hunk of Bio Bait,(crayfish flavor)and live shinner.
It is starting to get close isn't it.Less than 2 weeks.

I've been looking forward to this since ice up. I haven't even seen a kitty since September. I think I have a couple of buddies talked into coming up as well.

Wiskers, are you going to make it down here or what?

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
