xedge2002
I figured I could start this one. All season long I have thought they need to keep Tavaris on the bench and let him learn the game for a year before he starts. Now you can officially count me in as one who thinks he should be the starter now. He moved the team down the field extrememly well and was able to run for a first down as well too. Even though he was playing against a lot of "soft" prevent style defenses late in the game he still looked really good. Any other thoughts? jigging wader
Yep, I was wrong also, I thought he should ride the bench till next year.... He makes Johnson look like a wet noodle out there. Not only is he good on his feet, this guys got a good arm. Time will tell, but the future is looking alot better for this offence.
mr_jman
Yeah after watching him today I liked what I saw. Nice crisp passes and he can actually get out of the pocket. Provided he was playing a relaxed defense who had the game basically won. Still hope he is our starter vs. Green Bay on Thursday! What have we got to lose any more? SledNeck
Brad Johnson is the most inaccurate passing starting NFL QB Ive ever seen in my lifetime.
LMITOUT
That's actually not true. He has one of the highest passing completion ratings of all time.....but that's not surprising considering they were all 3-5yds at a time!
SledNeck
Im speaking of this year with the vikings only. His passes over 30 yards to guys that are not wide open are horrible. Anybody that comes in and throws a few passes of course will make Brad Johnson seem even worse.
Dave B
Johnson was 10-17 yesterday w/ a 30 yard completion. I am not endorsing him, but man, a guy could make a living correcting Sledneck's uninformed posts.
eyepatrol
Brad's days are over. His arm and his legs have very little left in the tank....certainly not enough to perform at the high level needed in the NFL. Jackson looked good. Crisp, athletic, accurate....just like pre-season. Even though he may have been up against a relaxed defense, keep in mind that he hasn't seen any real playing time this year, yet still comes in and performs well. I just wish Childress wasn't so stubborn on bringing him in earlier (like last week). Definitely hope Jackson is starting next week. Would think so since this is the second time Brad's been pulled from a game.Still, the Vike's problems go further beyond just the QB position. I thought with Childress coming in they'd be a very well disciplined team. Maybe off the field they are more disciplined, but on the field they lack discipline and fundamentals...leading the NFL in penalties should be a stat owned by the Raiders, not the Vikes. Mudcat21
Please for the love of God....Childress needs to start Jackson on Thursday night. We need a spark on this squad. I can't take another boring a$$ game again!

Okay, now we all know HOW Horrible Culpepper was and how Brad Johnson is the great white savior of the vikes.okay this season brad johnson has 36 pass plays that have gone for more than 20 yards. 61.4% 9 tds 15 int.in culpeppers last complete season with the vikes he had 63 over 20 yards. 69.2% 39 TDs 11 ints.for god sakes, Rex Grossman even has more pass plays over 20 yards than Johnson on less attempts.anyways, Brad Johnson is old news now, on to the future. CodyDawg
i do believe that Culpepper had a chap named Randy in his last full year. the next year, without randy, was when he was exposed for the fraud he is. how did he do then??? Brad aint the answer, but Culpepper wasnt, isnt, and will never be either.
riverrat56
TJ looked good, his two passes when he was falling over scare me though, that cannot become a trend in his game. They both worked and were outstanding plays, however in the long run they will lead to to many turn overs. Also and this may be from lack of 1st squad time in practice but he did not seem to know the hurry up. Like said the team has more problems than at QB. The Offensive line is horrible, these guys can't remeber a snap count, no one makes a block, they have no heart, everyone on that line quit last game, its hard to watch. Hutchinson is OVERRATED, I have watched him from the beginning, he makes some good plays, but even a blind squirrel finds a nut. This guy is not a differnce maker on the line. Childress needs to go, get rid of him now before we waste another year learning his worthless offence. The run defence does us no good because anyone can pick apart the secondary and line backers. The zone we have been in leaves huge holes in the outside third of the feild about 15 yards deep and teams know that and capitolize. I'm not a big stat guy, they are over used and don't mean as much as people put into them, but I do feel Tavaris should have started this past game already, everyone knows they won't make the playoffs. Even the players aren't playing like there season is slipping away. Everyone just seems happy to be getting paid.I don't come on this forum much anymore, this might be why, the NFL makes me angry, there is no heart, no pride, no will to play, no desire to play till the end, only dollar signs. CatManLee
I believe that Tavaris Jackson will be the starter from here on out. After all, he is the starting Quarter back of the future for the Vikings, might as well get him some regular playing time this year. That way he can atleast have a couple full games under his belt for next season. He is definetly more athletic, has a great arm, very quick, etc. The only thing he needs is some more time on the field. Once he gets more playing time, then we'll get to see if he's the real deal or not. I know he had an interception on Sunday, but he was trying to come from way behind with no time left to do it, so I don't fault him. As for the rest of the offense. I think they have lost faith in Brad too. I think the play of everyone on the team will pick up once there is a new Quarter back at the helm for them to believe in. I really think with Tavaris running the show, rookie or not, the vikings will be a totally different team...a much better team...a team with more heart...a team that actually believes they can win again... a team that can beat the Packers in Green Bay Thursday night! john.wells
for what it's worth, I think the offense seemed to almost work against Johnson. For pretty much the whole season, he didn't have that confident look in his eyes that I have seen in the past. Poor coverage, butterfinger receivers, bumbled plays, and oh ya- the penalties that throw everything out of cadence. I do think some new blood is good-Johnson has tasted the glory and I don't feel sorry for him, but I do feel that you really can't put this all on his shoulders. I am excited to see how Jackson REALLY performs, and how the p.o.s. offensive line works with him.
buzzsaw
With BJ as the QB teams didn't have to worry about the element of a long QB scramble or bomb for that matter, with TJ as a starter teams will have to worry about the running option he provides as well as having a stronger arm.... all of which make him a more valuable asset to this teams future.... the future is now. Born2Fish
I pretty much agree with what everyone has said about TJ. And basically as it stands just about anyone looks better than the ol' petrified tree known as brad johnson. There's not much that can go more wrong with TJ as the starter the rest of the way out this year. It will just earn him some starting experience which will most likely help come next year. I know Johnson said he feels he yas 3 or 4 more years left. And I agree with him on that....He has 3 or 4 more years as a BACKUP QB. Not a starter. CatManLee
Well yah, did you hear all the boo's aimed towards Brad Johnson on Sunday? I don't know if I have ever heard so much booing coming from vikings fans towards one of "our" own players...Everytime he took the field he was boo'd, he was even boo'd when he stepped on the field for the first time. Poor guy... Too bad I can't watch Tavaris play??? Man I hate how the NFL Network has those games only aired on their network. Oh well, I work at a radio station and we are broadcasting the Game on Thursday, so atleast I'll get to listen to it.
CodyDawg
It said in the paper the game will be on Channel 5, so no worries my boys.Sled,If memory serves me correct, 2004 was the start of the decline in DC. Randy wasnt up to par and ol' DC started getting exposed. Now as far as Randy in Oakland, there are a couple things at play. First, he has been injured and is no longer the Randy of old. I predicted when he started losing a step, he was gonna tank pretty fast as his ability is more predicated on speed than other top WRs (Jerry Rice, Terrel Owens and Marvin Harrison to name a few). Secondly, look at their dismal QBs! that whole team sucks big time. Which kinda tickles me that Randy has to endure that. Hehehe.
