broken line
Has anyone used a jerky gun. I have not, and am wondering how it works. Also, can it be used to make jerky with ground venison...does the meat hold together and stay shaped when dried ??

The_Duckslayer
I have the same question sort of. What kind/brand is a good one to get? I have some that I want to grind up and give it a try... Would like to get a good jerky gun so that I do not have to get two if you know what I mean. Thanks for your help././Jimbo
Deitz Dittrich
I have the cheep plastic one by American Harvest..if I were doing it again and I may buy one anyway.. I would get the bitg metal one by Cabelas... I hate having to refil that smaller plastic one all the time.. .as for seasoning, my person fave is the shore lunch brand garlic and cracked pepper.. mmmMmm
The_Duckslayer
Thanks Deitz... was wondering if I should go cheapie/midrange or get a good one right off the bat. May have to take the bike and ride down to Cabelas if it warms up just one more time. Have a good one and N Joy the Hunt././Jimbo
harvey lee
If money is not a problem, then I would buy the better one.The best stuff always works better and usually costs more also. When it comes to buying items for butchering or processing, whether it be knives, saws, vacumm sealers and such, the money spent for the higher quality is always worth the extra.I have went the cheaper route before and always end up buying the better later. The_Duckslayer
I see that Cabaelas has the jerkey blaster on sail now for 29 bucks. Wish it would warm up, would much rather take the bike to Owatonna than the truck! Have a good one. Take care and N Joy the Hunt././Jimbo
The_Duckslayer
Ended up taking the truck to Owatonna yesterday and picked up a Cabelas Jerky Blaster and some seasoning packets. I ground up 10 pounds of meat and now have 4 trays drying in the dehydrator. Man, I have a lot of jerkey! I used only about 1/5th of the meat! The Jerky Blaster works very well! Shoots two strips at a time and did not take long at all to fill up the baskets. Problem is I will be shooting and drying jerkey for the next 5 nights! Well, if that is a problem! The only complaint that I have about the jerkey blaster is the ease of putting the tips on. Kind of hard to make sure that they thread correctly. Is there anyone out there that makes jerkey seasoning for 5 pound batches?Take care and N Joy the Hunt././Jimbo
Deitz Dittrich
Ducky- I use Shore Lunch brand and it comes in a bulk type pouch that you measure out.. I usually do it in 3lb batches..but you could most deffinatly do a 5 lb batch.

You are correct you can never have to much but at 10 punds a whack I wont get to try very many different seasonings!Tippman The seasoning that I used was Cabelas. Turned out GREAT. Of all the people that have sampled it everyone has been impressed. Only thing is you need 10 pounds of meat to use it. That is a good bit of Venison!Have a good one guys... if you listen real close you can almost hear ice forming!
