Well I was catching fish shallow til last weekend and then last saturady I had the strangest day fishing muskies i ever had. I tell ya, and I'm not lying, over about a 1.5 hour period I saw ~ 20 different fish. Some were pretty good sized too, but no giants and no real little ones either. All came in what seemed to me to be pretty hot and would stick around the boat for up to a minute. At one point I had three fish shadowing one lure on a figure eight, they would just pop in and out of my sight but clearlyt three different fish. At another point me and my little bro each had a fish on our lures. We didn't catch a darn thing, nor did we get one to strike.

Saw all the fish in 13 feet casting at a thick weedline that came up to the surface in 10 feet. This week I'm getting suckers. Any thoughts from anyone would be appreciated. By the end of it I was seriosly considering jumping in and ending it....... Still alot of fun though.

p.s. every fish I've actually boated lately has been on a hang 10, and most of the fish from last weekend I saw on a weighted burt or a weighted phantom, but I also saw fish on a believer a depth raider a slow rolled spinner bait a cow girl and two different squirrley burts.

Put on a Bulldawg. Size won't matter, but I like big ones this time of year. Black/orange tail on cloudy days/low light. White/sucker pattern when the sun is out. You'll get a lot of follows in these water temps, but these fish will stay with that bait on a figure 8 and many can be excited into striking pretty easily. You'll recognize the ones' that are ready to hit. They're right on the tail of the bait and a couple of turns in a big, wide figure 8 will usually trip them. The ones' that come in low and slow can sometimes be 'excited' into hitting by really picking up the pace of the figure 8 - and I mean really ripping that Bulldawg at the boat. You're rod will be sloshing water big time if done right. Be sure to bury the rod and take that bait deeper into the water then back up in the turns. If the fish disappears. Bury the bait further and keep figure 8'ing - fast. Often times the fish went under the boat and you can get them fired up again by continuing your "8's" deep and fast. I've continued to figure 8 for a minute without a sighting and then the fish re-appears again.

Do this to those twenty fish you saw and some are bound to bite, I'm pretty confident. Better keep those hooks sharp! You're gonna need them...

I've been fishing most of the same spots, but I saw these fish somewhere new last week. Its a weedline I've always liked the look of but never spent alot of time on.

I hate bulldawgs. I have three of course but hate em none the less. THats why I didn't have them in the boat with me when I really needed them. THey're in the boat now. Thanks for the advice, I'll give em a try this weekend.

I decided to end the season after my success on Lake Vermilion. Fishing the Metro would just have seemed anti-climactic.

Funny thing though, I have not been able to bring myself to winerize the boat yet. Guess i am in denial.

I would probably fish a metro lake in someone elses boat...

I've been thinking about getting the boat wet one last time, and I think I will. Weekend weather looks good.

One last hurrah if you will. I'm gonna do it. Hopefully I'll hook something. grin.gif

I know nothing about muskies this time of year. I've read Bulldawgs are popular, but I'm thinking I don't want to go buy more stuff right now. How about cranks...maybe a little trolling. Slow or faster presentations?

Bald Eagle has some good edges, look to your electronics. Look between the island and the weed point towards the access, as well as the the breaks to the north of the main island as well. Tomorrow is supposed to be nice, shallower haunts (10-12 foot humps) may still a viable option.

I'll be hanging Xmas lights, the joy of the season!

One more thought....maybe WBL or Forest instead? Bigger lakes, more shallow to deep edges. All sailboats should be gone on WBL! grin.gif That said, BE and the water clarity and access issues soured me from hitting it much this year......

well -

fished all day thursday - half of friday - all day sat and sun. stupid muskies are really getting to me. boated one right off the bat thursday morning and lost another later that day - should of had the second but i was by myself (some sort of holiday kept everyone else busy) and got the net stuck and while messin with that she got off. thought i had everything figured out for a hot weekend but turns out i was wrong. did not even see a fish for the next two days other than the one cought right in front of us on the east side saturday night. mikey got a nice 40 inch pike last night right around sunset before heading home. thats it - 44 thur and a 40 pike sun. could there be just too many baitfish in the pond? 34.5 was the water temp when we pulled off last night. the end is near.....

hey 1000 posts...... do i win a prize?
