house liscence what do ya all do?

Okay I just picked up a small one man to add to my Voyager. Do you really need to put your name on a house that you take with you and will always be in while on the ice? I hate the idea of marking up either of my houses. And why by two liscenses when you only use one at a time?

I asked a CO last year and he said you can buy one liscence and use on both houses as long as you only have one house on the ice at a time. I put my number (DL or DNR #) on a piece of tarp and slide it in the opening on my Voyegear (on the back, on the piece you zip out for the trap link.) Then I laminated my Liscence and attach it to a zipper with a key rey or something secure. Has worked well and meets regulations.

I keep the license attached to a piece of plastic has my license number on it, I put in the plastic sleeve on the house. It is removeable and can be used on another house.

I have used cardboard, that gets wet and falls apart.

You do need to have your DNR or DL# or Name and address on your portable. The letters must be at least 2" or bigger. I went to FF and bought a stencil kit and sprayed the letters on my portable. Works great, keeps me legal and it won't blow off. If it fades, I can just place the stencil back on and I am in business. I did get a warning from the DNR a few years back. The shelter tag is not suitable for this requirement. It seems needless to have an ID in two spots, but it is easy to resolve.

Good Luck

Can you put only your Liscense # on or do you have to have your name. I used to just Stencil it on but then I moved it made it a mess. I may try something in the sleve or windot that I can remove if I sell the house or if I move again.

If you have not updated your Drivers Licenses in the last year or 2 don’t put that # on your shack permanently as when you renew you will get a new #

WOW. Now that you mentioned it I just looked at my new MN

drivers License. You are right about the number changing.

Had my old memorized for so many years and now I have to try

and remember this new one. I don`t like the feel of it

either, feels so flimsy I am affraid it will fall apart in

my wallet.

Going out this weekend to buy a new portable fish house.

Thanks for the headsup when I get a license for it.

I typed my license in the Word or something along those lines. Had the numbers about 2-3 inches. Printed it out and just put shipping tape on the front and back to make it water proof. Hung it in the back window of my Otter, works great and nothing permanent on the house.

I painfully fork over the cash for something I will be taking off the ice everday. I can see the need to liscense a permanent as there could litter violation etc. But to require a liscense on portable is about as lame as gets. I take a paint pen and write my DL number on the side, and put my fishouse liscense in the plastic sleeve.

Unless I am mistaken, I believe your DNR# will always be the same.

My DNR # is on my ATV and fishing license, so I agree. That's the # I put on my fish house so it better not change!

I got this from the Regulations Book.

"All shelters, which include dark houses, fish houses, and portable shelters, placed on the ice of Minnesota waters must have the complete name and address or driver’s license number or Minnesota DNR number of the owner plainly and legibly displayed on the outside in letters, and figures at least 2 inches in height." I personally feel the DNR number is best. I don't want others to know my DR# and the Name and address is too many letters. Besides, I don't want everyone to know where I live and my address seems to change. I think every one should download the Fishing Reg's book and read it to keep the CO's from getting us.

I have a clam pro portable and I wrote my DNR license# on it with black marker then i hang my shelter license in one of the windows that i don't open and that is perfect as stated by the CO that checked me. Come to think of it I was checked by 2 different CO's last year and they both said perfectly fine that way. Always use your DNR license # on your shelters for this number is yours for life!!!!

Agreed. But for every stupid law, there is some jaskarse responsible.

In other words, if we didn't treat the shelters all the same, people would be trying to find loopholes all the time.

I doubt the DNR has time to play lawerball becasue of the wording of the rules.

Sonicrunch...

Well stated!!!!

I can see it now.

If you don not have license your portable than I do not have to license my wheeled house, it is portable.

I am in favor that all fish house are treated equally, end the confusion now.

    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
