jltimm
Did anyone watch Franklin lose his title to Silva, or the Minnesotan Sherk win the lightweight title?
hanson
No, I missed it.I kinda figured that Franklin was going to lose. The last Anderson Silva fight I saw, he destroyed the guy.
The Grebe
Huh? I seen the Silva/Leben fight and from what I seen, the guy could hit, but he didn't have time to show much else, when he coldcocked Chris! On the other hand, I've seen Franklin fight a number of times and he looked to have ALL the tools at his command, including a good wicked punch! He has stiffened alot of the competition! Maybe he had an off day? (He certainly did have an off day, come to think of it!) I expected him to get knocked off sooner, or later, they all do, but I thought he would be around a little longer then most....another Chuck Liddel type.In my view, for a good hitter to whip up on Leben was no big feat...from his introduction on the Ultimate Fighter series, you could see he was open to get hit and he even encouraged other lighter hitting fighters to smack him. His gourd was there for the taking if you could pop and obviously, Silva could pop! I really didn't think he would pop Franklin that quick! Pantherburn
It was GREAT to see Sherk take care of Ken-Flo. I was getting real tired of Ken-Flo's miracle elbows. In nearly every fight I have seen him in, he has been getting domitated (even in the TUF season bouts) and then throws the elbow, eyes closed usually, and opens his opponent up. Granted, they were strikes that did damage and the fights were rightfully stopped, but it was nice to see Sherk handle him for 5 full rounds and get the belt. Who do you guys think will win the rematch between Matt Serra and Shonie Carter this Thursday? I am looking forward to that one. Serra dominated for 2 and 7/8 rounds in their previous match then Carter landed the spinning back hand to knock Serra out. I'm sure you have seen the highlights of that one. They square off again this Thursday. Even though he is pretty annoying, I gotta cheer for Serra. He's one of the guys on the show who would have a shot against Hughes/St. Pierre. I really hope St. Pierre crushes Hughes. I'm so sick of that guy.
jltimm
Serra will beat Shonie IMO.Matt Hughes will beat St. Pierre again also.Yeah, I never thought Ken Flo was very good either.Sean Sherk beat him, but I don't think he'll keep the title to long.Flo did last Waaaaay longer than I thought he would though. Black_Bay
Sherk is a local guy too. St. Francis if I remember right. I think he trains at the Minnesota Martial Arts Academy.
The Grebe
Serra's right, the Shonie show has worn pretty thin, he acts like a spoiled kid (A spoiled kid that could kick your a$$ in a heart beat! :-) I have only seen him fight on this current show...maybe I've seen him before and didn't pay any attention? It's not gonna break my heart if he gets the weirdness beat out of him! The dude acts like he's taken a few to many to the kanoggin! I say Serra. big musk411
Sherk trains at the Minnesota martial arts, my boss trains with him. Good to hear a MN guy got the win. Would be even better to see my boss get a beat down though. Hopefully Serra can get the win verses Showney, people like that get on my nerves. jltimm
Shonie is a definate "character"! He makes me laugh, but I'm not living with him either. He is a strange fighter, which is hard to get a hold of, but Serra will, trust me!
bgmny
Another Minnesota guy,Monson, will be fighting for the heavyweight title at UFC 65.
rosspj59
Shonie put up a good fight last night. I thought he had Serra with the spinning back hand. A welcome change to some of the previous early round fights. Hopefully all of the semifinal fights are good like this one.
Pantherburn
I concur....that spinning backhand had me a tad worried. Plus the two real nice judo throws. I thought they split the first round with Serra controlling the final two. I am itching to watch St. Pierre pummel Hughes. Hughes is awfully one dimensional...he has NEVER knocked anyone out (not counting Gracie, that didn't count) and usually waits for the guy to gas (Penn). He got lit up for the first two rounds and would have lost the belt if Penn would have been in better shape. St. Pierre is in phenomenal shape so it should be a great fight. Bubye Hughes, thanks for the memories!
hanson
The Serra/Carter fight was pretty sweet!I was pulling for Serra all the way. The Ultimate Fighter show has definitely brought his character out, sort of like what happened with Tito. He's a bit loud and outspoken but he definitely likes to coach and teach as well.He prepared and prepared for that spinning back fist and knew it would be coming at some point in the fight, and it still caught him. The Grebe
Danged right he did! He is character all right, but he can fight, no doubt! I didn't think the fight was as one sided as the judges score cards and I really don't like Carter. That suflex and that spinning back hand shot were something! I thought Serra was going down from the shot, it staggered him, no doubt! How bad would that have been, to get knocked out twice by the same manuver? Carter just couldn't close the deal. jltimm
I think Hughes will beat St. Pierre again, but i wonder who the next challenger will be? That Shonie Carter is a tough s.o.b. ,with alot of fighting skills.I would have thought Serra would have tried his submission skills on him, but decided to stand up, or try to ground and pound. The Grebe
I'll take St. Pierre...if anyone has a chance, it's him, he is about as well rounded a UFC fighter in his weight class, as there is out there....for the now anyways.
