DTro
Should've bypassed the mailbox today For two months I used 110000 gallons Doesn't that seem excessive? I run my sprinkler system on odd days for approx 6 hrs (two 3 hour cycles). Household of two (normal showers, laundry, etc.) No big items such as hot tubs, or pools. Anyone care to take a guess how much the city of Jordan will be getting from me??????
Reef Runner
I will guess $680!!Now that is alot of water!!!!I only used 7000 on my yard and I bet yours looks a hell of alot better.
lawdog
I would be checking your toilets for leaks! Put some dye in the tank and see if it disappears. Leaking toilets are by far the fastest way to use up water!
DTro
My meter in the utility room has a very sensitive gauge, and I checked it recently......no movement, which I would assume.....no leaksNot sure of the output of my sprinklers, but at 9-10 GPM the math works out. setterguy
Thats about right, most heads will put out 2-3 gallons per minute, then multiply that by how many per zone (say 4) you are using 12 gallons per minute. I would cut down on the watering....once every other day should be ok.
DTro
I just looked again, it's actually 101,000 gallons. Anyways, the bill is $387 Trust me, the twice every other day, was reduced to once every other day before I got in the house yesterday
Nutty Fisherman
I'm sorry but to pay that much money just to mow the lawn, and keep it green I just can't see it. I know there are people that do it but I just let it dry up and come back next year. I not saying that to knock the people that do it. That is just the way I feel. Each one to his own. If we were all the same it would be BOREING.
Powerstroke
I started watering every 3rd day and that hasn't slowed my lawn at all. Any lawn guy will tell you that fewer waterings spaced evenly will acutally benefit your lawn by training it to have deeper roots. I'm still mowing 2x a week. I hope your sprinklers have a rain sensor or you're turning them off a lot. We are several inches up on rain for the month of august. If you sprinkled more than a few times this month its is money wasted.I hear you on watering thing, but I'm thankful I have a well.
hawkeye43
I am thankful the people that owned the house before me put a lake pump in to take lake water. Even if I have to lay hoses out to water. It does suck to live on a gravel pit.
IFallsRon
Ouch. You might want to consider punching a sandpoint for watering. Your initial investment will be somewhere around that bill.
harvey lee
Darren,I feel your pain as I put a new lawn in when we built the new place four years ago and the water bill was nuts.I went to city and told them there meter must be off.I found out just how much you can spend putting in a new lawn and getting it started. I remember I used 115,000 for 3 months.I continue to water the lawn every summer as I like a nice green lawn but it does go down in price.
wayne123
Mine was high too -- $350. The part that bothers me is not long ago high (to me) was $150. There must have been quite a few rate hikes that I did not notice.
BobT
I hear you, Nutty. I didn't water my lawn all summer. Last week I mowed the lawn for the first time since June 13th. It got down right dead looking. In the past week and a half we have picked up almost 4" of rain. I have mowed twice in less than 4 days and looking at my lawn you wouldn't begin to guess it was all but dead just 10 days ago. Grass is very tough. Watering to protect against replacement seems like a waste from my experience.Bob
wayne123
I remember it was 1987 or 1988 not sure which it was very dry and some of the people who did not water had to put in new lawns the next year. That was an extreme year with no rain and lots of days in the 90's. I agree that there is nothing wrong with letting it turn brown but if there is no rain for a long time I would turn the sprinklers on for a couple of hours.
