creature vs senko or worm

Hopefully, this has not been covered too many times in the past. I fished with my brother this weekend for bass. I was using senko-style or ribbon tail worms. He was using a 5in. Power Hawg. I maybe caught a couple more fish, but overall pretty comparable. We hit a a few docks, weed beds, and the outside of the weedlines. Texas-rigged senko-style lures are popular with this crew, but when do you folks go with the creature baits? Thanks for the tips, and I hope Liriano rights the ship on Wednesday!

I am no expert but for me it seems that sometimes the fish like something chunky and slow falling like a creature (hula grup, chomper ect.) I usually fish these weightless or with a 1/16 oz brass weight with a red glass bead for a little clack when I jig it. I tend to use the creatures more when fishing verticle, like a weed line and a t rigged worm when fishing through a weed patch just running it back to the boat.

I like fishing creature baits, Im partial to beaver tail styles, In thicker weed cover. I think the larger profile and kicking legs give the fish something to home in on. I think regular worms and senkos work better in more open water where the slow wobbling fall or spiraling tail helps trigger a strike.

Didn't really want to start a new thread on this, but was hoping to get some comments on new creature baits. I know a lot of you guys got to test the prototypes, did you find any favorites? Looking to add to the plastics repertoire this summer and don't have a single creature bait! Favorite baits, favorite times to use them, etc.

Thanks.

I like to use the strike king 'wild thang' and also the YUM wooley hawg (I think thats what its called). Places that I prefer to use these baits is when I'm fishing dirty water in thick cover, or just dirty water in general. They give of some great vibration.

When im using a Creatur bait the things im lookin for and trying to do is like everyone said Get more vibrationg. But im also goin to a reaction strike as well. Like when im flippin into slop or around trees.

This Summer is tryed the Gray Yamamato Kreatrue and really like it alot. Its something different that i dont hear alot of ppl talking aobut so thats why i tryed. The only downside of it, is that they are really soft and dont last long. I also tryed the berkley beast and caught some really good fish on it in the spring of the year. My number one is still a Lake Fork Craw Tube!!

So if anyone know anyone that can kreatures like the GY ones let me know!!!

Dachis- As you may or may not know.. i am on the Mr.Twister prostaff.. and they too have a creature bait called the BA hog.. it comes in 2 different sizes. In stained water, I really like it. it has ribs for vibration, 2 paddles and 4 tails.. I have enev used it with success in clear water. They are a lot of fun to ahve in the tackle box.. that is for sure.

As for creature baits it is hard not to go much further without mentioned the Brush Hog - it has probably caught more fish than any other creature bait - perhaps because it has been around longer - but is very effective.

Alone or as a jig trailer it can be awesome. The other creature bait I really like is the Lake Fork version - both as a jig trailer (great for swimming jigs) and C-rigged.

Daze Off

Hiya -

I actually like creatures flipping in cane and rushes too. They just make a big target in heavy cover. I like Brush Hawgs and Power Hawgs, and starting last year I did pretty well on the Berkley Beasts. Off the edges I sort of like big skirted grubs like Yamamoto's or Chompers. Another one I got to like last year was the Powerbait Sabertail Bugs. Great smallie baits on a 1/8 oz ballhead.

I just got some sample packs of a new bait from Berkley called a Chigger Craw - it's 4", has flapper claws like a Paca Craw, a longer body like craw but bulkier, with some little leg things coming off it. Looks like kind of a neat bait. Time will tell.

Cheers,

Rob Kimm

Berkley Power Hawg, (Original model) Any color as long as it is green pumpkin. I like to fish it in heavy veg, trees, pencil reeds, pads, etc.. Anyplace you would flip. I think it is a big fish bait. I like both 4 inch and 5 inch models. Hve had good success with Brush Hog style baits also, both generic and name brand, but when money is on the line, looking for a kicker fish, its Power Hawg time.

Geez... My two favorite baits, Power worm and a wooly hawgill i caught over 80% of my bass on that combo last year. I'd say kreature for a slower presentation when they wont take it.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
