Ely Lake Expert
I am just curious about the reason behind dove hunting, because it doesn't seem like you would get much meat off of one of them. Here are the 2 scenarios I can think of. 1. Shooting doves for the sport shooting aspect of it and eating them because you shot them. OR 2. Doves taste real good and the fun shooting is just a bonus. So is it #1 or #2 or some other reason all together?
brittman
I would say more #1 than #2. Pass shooting or decoying doves is fun and if you are in the right spot - much shooting. The amount of meat of the dove is relatively small, but not much less than the breast meat on a woodcock.
rubber duck
Most of the doves I shoot have more meat than some of the fish I catch!

Sartell Angler
they are fun as heck to hunt and taste amazing on the grill when wrapped with bacon and enjoyed with some beer!I am honestly just as excited about dove hunting this year as I am about early goose and waterfowl season. If you haven't experienced fast and furious dove action you are missing out bigtime--they are a true gamebird no matter what anyone says.~SA/wdw
so haaad
I've heard pass shooting is a blast down in Arizona and New Mexico. The most common place that I've seen doves in MN is on telephone wires. I just can't find the sport in that kind of hunting.
ARNE
If you get out of your car and do alittle scouting you will find there are doves every where and alot of them, they are my favorite bird to hunt alot of action and fast shootin, when you find a good spot some of the best food comes in small packages

Wallydog
In the last 25 years I've killed thousands of doves here in Idaho and Mexico.......To me, they are the most challenging target a wingshooter can encounter AND they are absolutely terrific table fare. I just wish there had been a season in MN when I was growing up in the Appleton area! Part of the drill for myself and a dozen of my pals is "Dove Camp" I've been refining camp for 20 years. Here is a Mexico pic. WD

ARNE
Daily bag limit is 15; possession limit 30 in MN and WI
Wallydog
There is in fact a limit in MX. I beleive it's 20 white wings a day, 60 in possesion. These are the birds from several shooters. We give away easily 75% of all the birds we harvest to local villagers that have no power or regular source of fresh meat. They all very much appreciate it. So..........it's a bit of a humanitarian effort as well as great shooting.WD
riverrat56
I'm really looking forward to the season, think of it as the most challenging skeet course ever, and they taste alot better than dusted clay.It is by far the fastest shooting in any type of hunting and the twisting doves will humble a great shooter or make a guy like me look stupid. Also some great preseason work for the dog to practice retrieving
