Bouncy boat question???

I just bought a used 1999 Skeeter 1775 with a 2000 Vmax 150 on it. Generally, I'm happy with it. However, it seems to ride awefully bouncy. Even with the trim all the way down it bounces more than I'd like. Anything I can do about this? Would a hydrofoil help matters?

Even with smooth waters? On wavy waters how are you ewntering the waves? try at a tight angle if possible.

Nope, it's not a wave issue. It bounces as if it's trimmed too high, but the trim is down all the way.

My Skeeter (different hull) does the same thing at times, but only when I experiment with different props. My 3 blade did not do this, but my 4 blade does, but only when there is a lot of weight in the back (passengers) and I'm at cruising speed.

What prop are you using?

At WOT, full trim, what happens?

Mine works best, of course, at WOT full trim.

I had the same problem when I bought a used 40hp Evinrude for the Lund Rebel I previously owned. It wanted to porpoise even with the trim all the way down. I ended up adding spacers to the top mounting bolts on the motor to tilt it further down to solve the problem. It was as if the angle of the boat's transom was too vertical.

I think a hydrofoil will be out of the water once you are up on plane so it's of no benefit at that point. Usually, people add the hydrofoils if they have problems getting up on plane (cuts back on the bow rise, I believe).

A prop with different rake angle might take care of it. I'm not familiar with that rig so whether it's more or less rake that is needed I couldn't say.

Is the engine mounted at normal height or is it set up high?

What is the style, brand, and pitch of prop you are using now?

Do you have a Jackplate on it ? If so, you might want to experiment with different settings.

I think Valv hit the nail on the head here... this would also likely explain your high steering torque problem... if you've got a jackplate (it's probably a manual one) you may have to lower the jackplate a little bit to get back to where you want the boat to ride...

If you do have a jack plate hopefully you have a water pressure gauge as well... keep an eye on that during adjustments, especially if you end up moving the jackplate up.

Can you transfer more weight to the bow?

It may be something as simple as redistributing weight.

Cheaper than a new prop or a jackplate.

Am I right when I guess it's doing this when your trying to stay on plane at lower speeds? How much time have you actually spent in this boat? Not familiar with the 1775 is that a walleye type rig? I have a 12 inch jackplate on my boat and the only time it does that is when I'm planing at low speeds..just give her more gas.

A 1775 is a walleye boat. A few inches under 18 ft.

Giving it gas is great if it's fairly calm out.

You don't want to be hammering on the throttle in big waves though.
