New Coyote Rig

Recommended Posts

Here's my new Coyote gun. It's a Stevens Model 200 in .223 topped with a Simmons Pro Hunter 6-18x40 scope. It's a nice set up for under $400.00 and, it's a real shooter too. The barrel isn't even broke in yet I've only put 30 rounds through it and I shot a .75 3 shot group at 100 yards. I was shooting cheap American Eagle 50 gr. HP's. Then I taped a dime to the board for the picture. One shot and I shot the dime off the board. I'll let you guys know how it does on prairie dogs when I get back from South Dakota. Im leavin July 12th gettin back July 18th. grin.gif

MFreeman-

Most of the time you can get the same gun model, but a different caliber for the same price. So if you bought the Stevens model 200 in the .270 caliber (which is better suited for deer), then strapped on a Simmons 3x9 scope (rather than the 6x18), odds are you'd get an even better price on the combo than YoungGun did..

Hey mfreeman451 I would recomend getting that same gun in a bigger caliber. http://savagearms.com/st_200long.htm I would get it in 25-06 or 270 and put a 3-9 on it. At Gander Mountain there only $279.99. Great guns for the price. grin.gif I'm going to get the same gun except in .300 win mag for Elk.

were you shooting off of bags or off the bipod for those groups? if you shoot off of sand bags (front and back) you will surprise yourself with what that american eagle can do. I put five shots inside of a dime with my Olympic Arms ar-15.....Haven't found a better ammo out there for my gun as far as grouping goes....Have fun in SD....how much is the trip gonna run ya, where are you going, do they charge a daily rate or are you hunting federal/public land? I would love to take a trip out there to burn through a couple thousand rounds of ammo.......

Hey guys,

Thanks a lot for the advice. I had a spot to go in WI but it doesn't look like it will pan out this year, does anyone have any links to information for first time deer hunters? Like public places to go and hunt?

picksbigwagon I was shooting off my bipod but had a backpack under the butt. Im staying in North Dakota at a friends cabin. So I dont have to pay anything. Were are now going July 15-23. But I guess were only going prairie dog hunting for 1 day then walleye fishing for the rest of the time. I think we'll be fishing on Devils Lake.
