lawdog
Good grief did the 24 hit the wall hard. Thank God for the safer walls, HANS and all the other improvements they've made in the last few years. Those driver side impacts are awful!!!
Scenic
That was about the worst hard hit I have seen in a while.
LMITOUT
I think he did it on purpose just so Larry Mac and DW could say "that was a hard lick" one more time....
harvey lee
I'll say one thing and that it was a very hard lick and it cost him many points. He cannot continue his ways much longer or he will be watching from outside the top ten.
VMS
I would agree with Lawdog on this one... If the safer barrier was not there, Jeff would be in a hospital. That is the hardest hit I have seen since Sterling Marlin hit the wall or that one busch series guy who hit the wall/entryway at Bristol and literally tore his car apart because the entry and wall were not properly secured. It is good to see improvements made, but I still wonder why most of these changes are reactive rather than proactive...That is puzzling.Steve
JohnMickish
That Busch series guy was Mikey Waltrip.
iffwalleyes
No kidding that is amazing that cars can do that and the drivers just pop out and walk around to see what happend. Gordo isn't my fav. but I don't want to see anyone hurt that is for sure. It is great that Nascar has implemented this safety devices. But man I bet that still hurt like heck man wow even with the safer barrier. Like the they said Clint Boyer's car that was behind Gordon looked like it had been on a off road course with all the mud on it.
outdoor ran
A buddy and I were talking about how much safer nascar has become after losing Dale. That was a hard impact, your right I dont think he would of walked away from that a few years ago. Didnt Adam Petty and another driver lose there lifes because they lost their brakes in the corner? We were trying to think of the other drivers name? Kenny something maybe?
Uncle Bill
Kenny Irwin ??Found this. "During practice for the New England 300 at New Hampshire International Speedway, he slammed head on into the wall, causing his car to flip onto its roof. He died instantly. It was the exact same location where Adam Petty had died just two months before under the same circumstances."
VMS
Both Adam and Kenny died due to the throttle "hanging" at wide open. Due to their deaths, there is now the "kill switch" so at least they can shut the car down if it hangs.MNBassfisher...I don't think it was Mikey who hit the barrier just right at Bristol with his busch car. It was somebody who I would not recognize by name...Just cannot think of who it was, but I am almost sure it wasn't mikey...Steve
lawdog
It was Mike Harmon. Mikey W did it years and years ago at Bristol in a cup race, same spot, same type crash, the gate into and out of the track wasn't properly latched. The Harmon crash was phenominal, the guy literally just unbuckled and stood up off his seat onto the pavement and out of the rollcage. Johnny Sauter hit his motor/tranny with the #2 RCR car about 5o yards down the straightaway after the whole thing shot right out of Harmon's chassis. If you go to Yahoo (or probably google) and do an image search for "Mike Harmon Bristol" they have some pictures of what's left of his and Sauter's cars. Complete miracle that this guy lived, let alone didn't even get hurt.
JohnMickish
Your right, thanks for setting me straight on that. I new Mikey had a crash there but thought it was in a Busch car.
jbell1981
I missed the race this weekend so I just now seen a replay of the wreck. The was one hard hit! I like how the crew cheif asked if he was okay and there was a long pause as if he was checking himself over to see if anything was missing before he answered yes.
