OUTDOORNUT
A lot of talk is going around about how long Tony will be hindered by his injury. How many races will Tony have to hop out of the car during the first caution? I don't like to see ANYONE hurt in NASCAR, but a few more 23- finishes (when he isn't in the car) and they are going to be droping towards that 10th place spot rather quickly. VMS
The ONLY reason they dropped to 23rd in the race was due to Ricky speeding on pit road. Had he not made that mistake, it would have been a really good day for the team. The driver change-over went without a hitch and they did not lose a lap in doing so either. Overall, the team did an awesome job!! One mistake hurts...I will bet he will be getting out of the car for 2 - 3 races more. Better to turn the car over and get points rather than risk more injury, which could hinder a points chase in the long run...Steve
harvey lee
I would think that they will rest Stewart as long as needed or until he get near 10th place. There is no reason to hurry him back to stay in say 5th when a 10th will get you in the chase and he will be a little better for the final 10.Just my thoughts. lawdog
Yep, another talk thing about the chase, these races don't much matter so rest him, lose a hundred points and who cares as long as you are in. Just another thing that takes away from it being a season championship...
Uncle Bill
I believe Stewart has competition in his blood, and wants back in that race car in the worst way.Like Rocky Racoon, "he'll be back, as soon as he is able"
VMS
That is true...hard to sit on the sidelines when your lifelong dream is to race cars. He is smart enough though to know what is best for the team, and right now that is with him out of the car so he can heal properly.Steve
Eric Wettschreck
This whole race for the chase thing blows.Tony wants in that car bad, we all know that. But he's a smart guy and there is a road course coming up. I'm thinking he'll not finish a race until after the road course.

jbell1981
According to an article on nascar.com, he plans to run all the qualifying, practice and race laps this weekend.
VMS
He might try...but Ricky Rudd will be right there ready to go... We'll see how much Tony can take with the differing corners in Penn... Lots of long runs there. I doubt Tony will be in the car past a first or second caution. Steve
lawdog
two REALLY long straightaways there with no side G-forces on that shoulder will make the racing much more tolerable for him than Dover could have possibly been. Still, I don't see the point in pushing it and not letting himself heal when with the chase setup this race is essentially meaningless to him if he can't win... jbell1981
Quote:He might try...but Ricky Rudd will be right there ready to go... According to the article, Rudd is on vacation with his family this week and will not be able to fill in if it were needed. No other drivers have been contacted about being a possible relief at this time.
