Spoon suggestion for northern manitoba trip

FOOTDOC

Question

Heading up to God's lake for the first week of June. We traditionally cast the shallow bays for trophy pike. I have caught my largest pike on a double sided orange ko wobbler. We also have a blast with top water lures. Any suggestions for pike spoons would be appreciated.

I would be sure to have a few of each, 5 of diamonds, hammered brass with orange floressent, gold spoon, all dare devils, stripe and meps brass black minnow.

I've never used many spoons but I have done really well on Yellow spinnerbaits in Canada. One of my new favorite baits though is the X-rap. They have a larger size out this year as well. Pike just can't resist the pause of the X-Rap. grin.gif

Caught a lot of 40"+ pike up in Nunivit on a large Johnson's Silver Minnow with a 4" twister tail on the hook. Almost snag free, casts like nothing else, only a single hook to take out of their mouths (plus only one hook to smash down). Run it deep, run it shallow, run it topwater, run it fast or slow... it was our go to pike lure...

Good Luck!

We took a trip to Thompson many years ago. On a side trip, we did some fishing in some lakes off the Nelson River. The northerns really did a number on our tackle. By the end of the stay, we were down to using homemade spoons made from tableware.
