benelli_dude2002
Just wondering if anyone has one and how you like it. i saw the video evinrude e-tec came out with as far as the shoot out with other outboards but all they test is the big blocks like the 225 hp. Not sure how new they are but I havent seen on the water yet this year. Any input is 'preciated also. Thanks
Mille Lacs Guy
I've got a 90 HP and it has been a good motor besides for the fact that the dealer didn't install it right when I got it but that's all taken care of now. They are quiet, use less gas than a traditonal 2 stroke, have good hole shot, require less maintanence, and troll slow as compared to most 4 strokes. If you have any specific questions let me know. I think they are good motors. I would also consider Yamaha and Suzuki motors.
benelli_dude2002
Thanks for the reply. Right my dad is looking at selling a couple boats to get a bigger fishing boat and he thought about an e-tec. He was thinking about a 60 hp tiller or bigger. Not sure how big of a tiller is available. He has 3 yahama 4 strokers right now and seem to treat him good so far. I noticed they are smaller even when the same hp size. Thanks again!

beretta
Just wondering what was wrong with the infomercial?
Mille Lacs Guy
I tend to agree on the Etec infomerical. In fact, Bass and Walleye Boats magazine did a test between all the 225 motors and the Mercury 225 Opti Max Pro XS actually outperformed the Etec 225 HO. Nonetheless, I still think the Etec's are very nice.
cold one sd
I have a Merc Verado and I am happy with it. I think the closest E Tech dealer is 100 miles from me and I don't think I have seen one on the water yet. I think they are all good outboards and it is a matter of preference and how close you are to good service. To me it is the old Chevy, Ford and Dodge comparison. Every one likes what they drive or in this case operate. I don,t think I would go out of my way to buy an E Tech.
shamalex72
I just got the 115 E-tec this year, so far I am pretty impressed with it. It uses very little oil and is decent on gas. I have been mostly doing alot of WOT, testing different props and just playing around with the new boat. Once I start doing some actual fishing I believe I will see alot better fuel economy. It will troll just as slow, if not slower than my previous motor(60 four stroke). There is no smoke at start up, and very little smell. Fairly quiet, idling and WOT, maybe not as quiet as a four stroke but close.
gopherfisher_22
I would wait a year on the 115 and up thet havent proved themselves yet. 90's and lower have been out on the water for 2+ years but it is pretty bad when no dealer can get a 115-175 for 3 months and the motors that where at the shows tis year didnt have anything under the hood. I just hope we dont have another ficht on our hands.Stick with yamaha or suzi
beretta
Dont quote me on this but I am 90% sure that the first etec out was either a 250 or a 225...I beleive they started out with the bigger motors and then added the smaller ones to the line...then again ive been wrong before. Mille Lacs Guy
Quote:M L Guy, How big a boat do you run and how slow will the e-tec go? also what top speed at wot? Thanks Pat I run an 18.5 foot Warrior. It is a tiller. I can backtroll less than 1.0 mph and forward troll less than 2.0 mph. If it is flat calm it is usally about .8 mph backwards and 1.8 forward. I run a 15 pitch stainless prop and can go about 35.5 with two guys and a full tournament load. If it is me by myself with a light load I can go 37.5. All speeds are off of GPS. I am going to be playing around with the prop a little bit to get closer to the max RPM range. Right now I am about 300 RPM under my max and if I go to a 13 pitch I think I can actually get better performance, especially in rough water because I will be turning more RPM's. blacksheep
hey MLG, where is the cavitation plate in relation to the bottom of the hull? above, below, or right on? thanks B.S.

I would have to look to see exactly where it is. If I had to guess I would say it is a little below. I am actually considering raising the motor up one hole if I can to get better performance. TV BOY
I have a 75 e-tec on our pontoon, but have only been out once, Need some April weather again . It pushes the 20' toon 20mph. No smoke or smell whatsoever. Very quiet, can't speak for the fuel consumption yet. Starts with the first turn of the key. Weights less than a 4-stroke. Got the 5 year warranty. Good hole shot for a toon... you'll spill your drink if your not ready
knoppers
TV BOY,20 MPH seems slow for a 75. was that on your pontoon guage or GPS?I have a 20' pontoon with a 25 2 stroke mariner and can do 13 MPH on the GPS.make sure you have a proper trim, I would think 30 should be possible. TV BOY
That was the speedo, I will check it with the gps. The mechanic changed the prop after the initial water test. He ended up with a cupped prop which he said gets a better bite but may loose some top end.
78cj5
I love my 90hp E-Tec. I am getting 42 MPH on the GPS on a 16' Mr Pike. I am running a 17" Viper Stainless Prop. I can forward troll at 1.7 MPH and backtroll at .8 MPH. That's me solo and a half tank of gas.
shamalex72
78cj5, what are your rpm's at idle?
78cj5
My E-Tec idles just under 600 RPM's. I am turning about 5100 WOT with a 13X17 Viper Stainless prop.
shamalex72
My 115 is close to 700rpm at idle and 5800 at WOT. I am running a Viper too; 13 7/8 X 17. I am going to have my dealer adjust the idle for me a little, I would like to get it around 500rpm.
benelli_dude2002
Wow! I didnt think I would get this much response. Thanks for your input. Might be few years before I get a boat but I like them Warrior boats with a tiller, my buddy has one and I fished out of it a few times. Safe boating to all!
