To be honest, I am not sure about the Croix.. I know this is Inland waters opener.. not sure about the river?.. Anyone? I think the river opened this last weekend, but not sure if it was all species or just walleye/pike?

If Lake Superior is to rough for trolling I will hit some lakes around Solon and Gordon area for some bucket mouths on Sat and Sunday. Now if I could only find my bag with all the slug-gos in it.

Balsam is not to far to drive and a very fun lake to fish in my opinion... it may have a tournament on it, (it does a lot) but still a very fun lake to fish.

Deer and Wapogasset are fun ones as well, lots off muskies to watch this time of the year too(season still closed on them)

Clam lake and other small ones always put out some good fishing as well. Get a map book, and just look for the ones that say decent bass fishing.

Walleye Hunter. Different lakes willfish differently. IF the lake has warm temps I would assume that they will be moving shallow for pre-spawn. Soft plastic jerkbaits on inside weedlines. If you can find old lilly pad fields those too can be good. Otherwise look for spawning bay and then work your way out to the first break.

The north part of the lake usually will have the most active fish.

I'm heading to Wood and Clam and a few other undecided ones. First WS opener I've fished in a number of years, though we won't actually be starting till Sun. afternoon. I'm pumped!!

Web, Deitz named a few. Here's a few more -- Long, near Centuria, big shallow bay, north end, should be good. Trade, dark water. Halfmoon, more clear. Mudhen, bigger, lots of shallows. Mallalleu, N. Hudson, great water fed by the Willow river. Squaw, NE of Somerset gets hit hard by panfishers, but good way to get out of the wind, though VERY green.

Now, close your eyes, drop the 50 bucks (think of it as a tank of gas) and have fun. It's nice to have a state so close that opens their bass early. Maybe MN will come around and open to C&R when walleye's open. It does'nt seem to have hurt WS bass fishery.
