james_walleye
Last season he threw for over 50% with 4 TD's and 0 INT's when he played. We do need a linebacker no doubt. But we also need too get a young QB in here too. Johnson doesnt have much left and if your serious about winning a superbowl i dont know if he is the guy here. He did it in TB, but that was with an unreal defense which we dont have here. Whether its Schaub, or Charlie Whitehurst, or Brodie Croyle, someone needs too be brought in too learn under Johnson while he is here. That being said, Schaub having played a little already and playing well, and still young, seems too me too be the safest bet at this point too develop into something. Now its balancing are you better off losing the first rounder on Schaub and maybe taking a LB in the 2nd, or are you better off taking a LB in the first round and Whitehurst in the 2nd round. I have too believe somehow they are bringing a young QB in, its just a matter of how they do it. I know i would rather see a LB in the 1st, Whitehurst in the 2nd than Cutler in the first and then a LB.
cybermuskie
Right now I think it is very hard to try to figure out who the Vikes may end up with. It really all depends on where the top 3 QB's go. It seems like all the pieces won't fall into place till we know how the land. What I am saying is if New Orleans, or the Jets, or whoever takes a QB that will change everything. As far as Sims goes I have seen mocks where he has gone fairly high, so there is nothing saying he will be there at 17. I get a kick out of some of the "big wigs" doing these mocks that still don't have the Vikes with Miami's pick in the 2nd and Seattle's in the 3rd. Anyway, I think we will just have to wait til draft day, and hope our coaches know what they are doing! I still would love to see Vernon Davis in purple. That's who they should be jumping up for! Maybe we could give all of Green Bays players back for their 1st rd pick! haha
Down to Earth
It seems all the Schaub talk has died down, so I doubt there is much going on there right now. I'm guessing they will end up addressing it in the draft either in the 2nd or 3rd round depending on whose available. Three names I've seen associated with the Vikes are the two mentioned here with Croyle and Whitehurst along with Omar Jacobs.Only a little over a week left to go. slim1
I agree with cyber on the Shuab thing but it sounds like typical viking thinking in giving up a 1st rd. for him. I agree he would be a good backup but for a 2nd or 3rd rd. pick.We got less for dante. If they don't get a lb. in the 1st rd. I think we'll be getting laughed at again by all the draft day guru's. I just hope draft day isn't the circus the vikes seem to make it every year.
Down to Earth
I don't think you can compare it with the C-Pep situation. With Duante he had a deflated trade value not only because of his injury situation, but also because teams knew Duante didn't want to be a Vike nor did the Vikes want him, plus he had a big contract. Schaub on the other hand is not only a hot commodity to other teams, but the Falcons regard him highly as well, which increases his trade value to the Falcons. One other thing the Falcons are taking into consideration I'm betting is back in the early 90's Ron Wolf traded a 1st round pick to the Falcons for a 3rd string QB( I don't think he was the primary back up) and we all know how that played out. buzzsaw
I was listening to the NFL Network on Sirius radio channel 124 today and they were all over the fact that the Vikes are in the drivers seat with the Schaub deal... they said that the other three teams that were interested in him have all gone out and picked up a QB and that Vikes have a pick in the first round that could get the deal done combined with the fact that he is a restricted free agent next season. It sounded like they believed Minnesota would step up, but they thought it made more sense for Minny to do a trade before the draft because if they waited until after Cutler was drafted Schaubs stock would rise in Atlanta's eyes. slim1
Don't you think it would be smarter to work on the LB position first? I don't know it always seema that your def. can carry you farther in the playoffs. If we don't have a good defense this year probably have about the same record. but we have to get a QB forsure one way or another
JIvers
Here is a little more evidence that none of the draft experts have any idea what most NFL teams are going to do on draft day. My theory is that by predicting a different draft scenario every couple days, it is a given that they can point back and say they were right, having made about sixty different predictions in the four months leading up to the draft. Mel Kiper Jr. today said the Vikings are seriously interested in Oregon QB Kellen Clemens with their highest second-round pick. Clemens suffered a knee injury this year that hurt his draft value, but was considered a first-rounder due to his 60% completion rate. Of course, the University of Oregon has produced NFL standouts like Joey Harrington and Akili Smith. By my count, this makes the fourth Vikings QB rumor in the last two weeks, with Cutler, Schaub, and Vince Young being tabbed as near-future Vikings as well. There are probably a few more like Brody Croyle of Alabama that I have not heard about, or am not thinking of at this moment.
james_walleye
If they bring Schaub in it wont be for a backup. It will be too be the starter. The reason Schaub is commanding a higher draft pick too get him compared too Dante is because hes about 5 years younger, he isnt coming off season ending knee surgery, he didnt play as rotten as Dante did last year, and Schaub hasnt asked for a trade like Dante did, meaning the falcons arent desperate too get rid of him like the vikings were with Dante. The initial big hype over Schaub has died down but Atlanta still realizes that keeping Schaub for this year as a backup is forfeiting a first or second round pick in this years draft. cybermuskie
I think part of the Vikes plan is to make everybody wonder exactly what they are thinking! This whole spring has been hush hush, so why would they let their game plan out of the bag now. They may be throwing up a big smoke screen, and pull something out of their behinds! Everybody is basing their mocks on team needs, which they should, but I guess you never know what is going on. Bring in a bunch of guys to look at, so everyone thinks one way, then you go another. I kinda hope they are that sneaky! I would love to hear the crowd at the dome shout VD,VD! haha (vernon davis)
james_walleye
I just caught tonights ESPN draft special and Kiper said the vikes might be eyeing up Kellen Clemens, the QB from Oregon with one of their 2nd round picks.
nofishfisherman
I have never seen a guy do some much with so little knowledge as Mel Kiper does. He doesn't know what he's talking about 90% of the time. Any of us would be just as good at his job, all you have to do is put out a new mock draft every day for 2 months. One of them is bound to be pretty accurate. Its like trying to guess the birthday of a child 3 years in advance. If you make 360 guesses your odds are pretty good one of them is correct. caseymcq
I hope the Vikes get a Pro Bowl caliber QB with that second round pick, since that is what they gave up for it
