Here's a 27lber I called up yesterday for my buddy Jay. He was one of a group of three that strutted for about an 1/2 hour at 30-40 yards out. They eventually worked in to about 15 yards but getting an open shot without shooting multiple gobblers was a chore. Jay made an excellent shot on him while the other turkeys just went about their business strutting and gobbling as if nothing had happened laugh.gif!!!

Anyway here are some pics

I was going to shoot some video, but I accidentally hit the on button on our way into the woods and the battery was dead when the turkeys showed up. mad.gif I can guarentee that won't happen when my season comes on May 2nd!!!

GOOD HUNTIN!!!

We had a hard time calling the turkeys within shooting range on the public land we were hunting. Thursday afternoon on the way out of the woods I came across 4 birds (2 jakes and 2 hens). Unfortunately it was 5:05 p.m. We snuck around the group and came in early to be sure no one “stole” our spot. Good Friday was indeed good to me, although it took a little work. We located the roost, turkeys goblin like crazy, fly down and of course they head off in the opposite direction – goblin’ away you might say. About an hour or two later 2 strutters – 60 yards away and not coming any closer. A gobble to the right sends them investigating. 15 minutes later there are 2 strutters (in the area to the right) double gobbling but not coming any closer than 60 yards. They wonder off. Well this ain’t working so we sneak around the hill to the top of another and Pops calls - another gobble! Pops decides he needs to walk away from the gobbler and me calling all along so it sounds like the hen is leaving. Sure enough after about a half hour up over the hill comes a hen followed by the guy in the picture. Fun, fun, fun.

Thanks

I know I was! I got a little bit trigger happy and was done in about 45 min the first morning. I have been in the Black Hills 2 years prior and had a couple missed opportunity's so I just had to take the Merriam when the taken was good! Now if I can only get on a flock of birds like that this weekend......

I'll be back out the first or second week of May to fill my other tag. The wife and I are building a house out there and have to meet with the contractor and then its west river I go. Watch out gobbler's, I'm a man with an itchy trigger finger!!!!!

My Idaho gobbler harvested 4/23 in the Orofino,Id area.

Thickest bearded bird I've harvested in ID. Nice 2 yr old, 9 1/2" beard, 7/8" sharp spurs, prox 20#. He's a "mutt" speciewise, as easterns were released in this area in 1983 and have hybridized with merriams yielding a varied assortment of tail colors. My partner whacked a stud "eastern" marked bird on Saturday.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
