Swimbaits

Recommended Posts

They work great. I have bags full of them in a few different sizes. 4" seems to be a good all around size but early and late in the season I will go 6" and every once in a while bigger. I like the fact you can do so much with them. You can jig them, drag them or just steady swim back with maybe a stop in there every once in a while.

Deadly on the St.Louis and Rainy Rivers. Plus you catch some big smallies, pike and Skis on them as well.

Doug sure pushes them hard doesnt he? Every show he does he is using swimbaits for eyes, stripers, bass, pike and Muskie. I have gotten a lot of good info out of him and he is responsible for my trying them out a few years ago.

They do work!

I bought a bunch of Storm swimbaits last fall and haven't really used them yet. They look awesome and the action looks great but we'll see soon enough if they produce.

As for Doug Stange, he's my favorite fishing guy on TV. The thing I love about In-Fisherman shows vs the other shows like Outdoor Passions is that In-Fisherman always takes a few minutes to show you the rigs close up and explain how they work. They also talk about presentation and all kinds of other factors. Outdoor Passions is like a giant infomercial for some canadian lodge up in Quebec.

I agree the In-Fisherman staff, mostly Doug Stange really push those baits. I have used them and they do work but like anything you fish for walleye, bass, panfish etc... It's just one tool in a really big tool box. Let the fish tell you what they want

I used one last year and they do work very well. My Bro-in-law got a two-pack of Northland Mimic Minnows as a gift and he broke them out in Canada last year. We were fishing for smallies and he was outfishing me 3-1 with that thing. I tied one on and sure enough the first cast a 20" hit it. We didn't use them for walleyes though as we were only casting in very shallow spots for Bass. I'll definitely try them this year.

I bought a couple after our trip and had good success on Minnewaska here in MN. You can jig them, cast them, troll them. They are really versatile.

This year I bought the biggest one I could find and am going to try for a large Northern/Muskie with it. Should be fun.

I would definitely give them a try!

Great baits. Fished them a lot the last two years. The little 2" Storm paddeltails are deadly on crappies. The salt water Berkley Inshore minnows and the porgies work for walleye, pike and muskies. Very adaptable lures. Haven't used the larger sized Storm Swim baits that much but see no reason why they wouldn't do the trick. I have even used the Berkley paddletails on a rig instead of a worm or leech and they worked just fine. I just wish more stores would carry them.

Eyehead brand doesnt seem to matter at all. Some out there are sold under a few different names I believe. The Salt Water Power Baits are what I use most often but they can be very hard to find. Plus very expensive. $1 a piece. Bigger paddle tails are also good. (Bassically the same thing anyways) Cheaper in quanity as well.

Bassassassin also makes a 6" Saltwater bait that I have a few of. Check out their site it now has great pics of everything. The 4" I jig in the Rainy and St.Louis Rivers with great success and early and late in the year I really like the 5-6" ones. Favorite walleye colors are smelt, glow/red tail, white, pearl, blue shiner, gold fleck, chart and white with either a chart/red or green tail.
