I'm with you cybermuskie, I wish the vikes would go after a couple bigger names. Although I have to say that I don't know to much about this chester Taylor he might be allright. We still have to fix our Offensive line before we get to excited and it sounds like the vikes are about to make an offer to Hutchinson from Seattle so that will help alittle.

What are everyones thoughts on this Leber guy. Don't know much about him either personally I was hoping they would go for Julian Peterson.

I agree Buck, Peterson would be good at LB. He would cost more than Will Witherspoon. Will signed a six-year, $33 million contract with the Rams, so it will cost them more than that IF they wanted to sign Peterson.

I think the Taylor signing was a decent one. When he spelled Lewis the last few years he did decent but he never got in enough games to get into a real good rhythm. He also has pretty good hands which will help with the west coast style passing offense Childress is going to run. I think the signing of Hutchinson if the Seahawks don't match it will be an awesome addition to help open up holes for him. Especially if Birk stays healthy this year. The linebacker they got sounds like he could be a good player they say he is built for the Tampa 2 style defense where the LB has to be quick and cover some ground. I would bet they aren't done in the Free agent market yet either. I could see them getting another lineman to challenge for a guard spot or sign another linebacker since we really don't have one from last year that is worth starting this year. I think that peterson could be a good one but with the torn achilles a few years ago it seems like most players that have that injury never really recover from it so I would be a little leary of giving him huge $$$$.

Chester Taylor must be licking his chops right about now. If the seahawks don't match the vikes, they might have one of the best blocking tandems in the nfl,on the left side of their line with Mckinnie and Hutch. Like you say Xedge hopefully Birk can stay healthy. With the vikings signing a RB I wonder which direction they will go in the draft.

So then they end up with 1 first rd and the 3rd rounders. I wonder if they really need to move up. They could get more players for their bang if they hang on to their picks. Who knows one of them may slip to them. There aren't to many teams that need a QB and I don't know how many are willing to pass ona player that will help their team right away,as opposed to blowing a pick on a guy that goingto sit on the bench for a year or two. Otherwise there is good options in the second-tier. Whitehurst or Croyle. They won't start right away either, but we still would get other players.

One other thing...if we climb for one of the top 3 what does that tell B. Johnson? "Hey we don't think you will make it past mid season so we are going after a QB"

Who knows...I am not the coach but I hope they don't trade their picks!

I don't think it will send the wrong message to Brad Johnson that the team doesn't think he can make it thru the season. I think it sends the message that they have enough faith in him that they want him to be the guy to tutor a new QB into the Vikes new system. Brad has to know that with being 38years old the vikes don't expect him to be their starter for more than the next year or two at most. As for teams that need a starter I think there are a lot of them that could take a QB before the vikes pick so I doubt one of the top 3 will fall...

Titans- Pick #3 McNair isn't that young anymore even though he was Co-MVP a few years ago. He would be a good mentor for a few years though.

Jets-Pick #4 I doubt pennington will ever come back to the level he was before the shoulder problems started. Ramsey is a quality backup but he is just that a backup I don't think he has the stuff to be a starter. He had a chance in DC but couldn't hold off Brunell.

Oakland-Pick #7 I wonder how many picks Brooks will throw before Moss starts moping around?? I don't think Brooks is even a good NFL QB but I have never really had a high opinion of him so that probably skewes me a little. But he had plenty of time in N.O. with decent talent around him and didn't produce.

Buffalo-Pick #8 Losman had a chance and couldn't pull it off I doubt the new management will give him a long leash they are already saying it is going to be an open competition

Arizona- Pick #10 Kurt Warner is a decent QB but has had problems with injuries the last few years and also isn't getting much younger. He would be a decent guy as well to tutor a young QB.

Baltimore- Pick #13 Boller's last couple of games last year saved his behind otherwise I think he would be looking for a new home. Plus they have yet to sign a good veteran backup so we may see them try to move up and get one of the top 3 since they are sitting decent at most of their other positions.

That's just my thoughts. Also if Houston decides to trade out of #1 for picks it may give a later team the chance to move up and grab a QB or Bush. Either way if the vikes trade up or not I think they will have the ability to get an impact player in the first round. If they stay where they are I would bet they will be taking a LB.

If we want to trade up to get a top pick that can be used to get a QB it sounds like we would need to give them our 1st round pick and both of our 2nd round picks. So you better make sure you pick the right QB beucase you just put all your eggs in one basket to get him. What happens if he turns out to be a Ryan Leaf?

What if we didnt trade up this year, and find a way to be able to draft Brady Quinn next year. Will probably never happen, but I sure would be happy if they did.

I agree with the statements of sending a bad message to Johnson, if we trade up this year.

I think it should be clear to him at 38 years old that he isn't going to be around much longer. Drafting a young QB shouldn't send him shaking in his boots if he has any confidence in himself. The only way he is getting benched is if he is hurt or if he plays horrible. I think you all underestimate the mindset of Johnson. His ego isn't as fragile as Culpeppers was.

Pesonally, I don't think it would send the wrong signal to Brad by moving up to draft a Qb. It would be more flattering to me, as telling him they want him to mentor the young Qb. Now with that said, what do I know? I hope they don't spend thier picks to try and move up though. Junky.....

Sounds like Atlanta knows how valueable Schaub is and is wanting an awful lot for him. The vikes are 1 of 3 teams that have inquired about his availability. If moving up in to get one of those QB's means sending both 2nd rounders away i dont like it. I would rather see them stick with what they got for a year and see what comes around next year. A year ago, who would have thought a QB like Brees would have been around. Who knows what kind of QB's might be floating around in a year. If Ziggy thinks things are in place too make a run at a Superbowl this year hes going too use every one of those top 3 round picks on people that could help the team now.

I still wonder if one of the Top 3 will slip down to us. I have seen a few mocks that have Cutler making it to us. I read on ESPN that they didn't figure the Raiders would draft a QB. The only wild cards are the Jets and now the Bills ( trying to trade Loseman) Everybody has Leinart going # 3, but I think we should hang on to those picks and see if they fall to us. If nothing else go up grab the guy you want but spread the draft picks out over a year or two. I could see that. Say give our 1st and 2nd round pick and a 2nd rd next year. That would still leave us a 2nd rd this year. But I say if they are going to jump it should be for Leinart, or just stay where they are at!

I know this all has been covered, but it really has been a boring week for Vikes news! So boring that I think I will go fishing! grin.gif

I don't know if one of those top 3 QB's will slip all the way to 17, but if they slip to around 10 or 11, for example (where the Cardinals and the Rams are), a draft-day trade to move up might be more in order. It might be cheaper to move up six or seven spots on draft day instead of up into a top spot prior to the draft.

The Vikes might even have an extra third round pick to work with for such a trade, if they let Burleson go to Seattle...

From most of the places that I have looked it seems to me that the Vikings must be interested in the quarterback from Alabama--Brodie Croyle.

I do think that the Vikings should hang onto the picks and try to upgrade their team.

The other thought that I have is how many of the Super Bowl quarterbacks in the recent past have been first rounders?

I believe they need to find the quarterback that will best fit their system--I just hope that they draft a quarterback on the first day.
