0 hanson
Quote: How many guys have seen FL10's? Saw a picture of one in a Vexilar advertisement in a Crappie magazine the other day. Yep! The FL10 is Vexilar's in-dash version of their flasher. I believe that one has been around awhile. All I can say is that if someone didn't have the desire to compete with Vexilar, we would all be using FL-8s still. Like previously mentioned, competition is good and advancement in technology is a direct result. I like to use the best equipment out there regardless of brand. I think I'm just as excited as everyone else to see who will be "king" next winter.
0 Captain B.R.K
Well I have both units (FL-18 and LX-2) and have to say that Marcum, with the additional power, clearly has a edge on Vexilar right now. I especially like the LX-2 with the zoom feature as it is much more crispier read then the FL-18. I'm interested to see what Vex. will have this coming year. They make a great product and being they were the 1st to super tune a graph for us ice-fisherman, I would not just jump on the Marcum bandwagon just yet. It could be a hard fall come this next winter
0 mark n
Thats a prety bold statement Captain. What could Vex do other than just try and keep up? Maybe I lack the emagination to envision the possability's the sonar of the future has to offer
0 CNY Tim
BRK- Dude your funny you were probably one of the most dyed in the wool vex heads. I know... and that's going back aways. MarCum is in it for the long haul I assure you and if you had grabbed an LX-5 this past winter you would have sold that FL-18 after a couple of trips on the ice cause simply put the FL-18 can't hold the LX-5's jock My experience with MarCum units is that they have been extremely dependable on the ice and they have delivered hi-tech perfection in detail... You guys know me and you trust me and I'll break em down and crunch the numbers cause whichever it is I'll only use the best. A cup holder, rod holder or tackle box were not enough to give Vexilar a second look. You all should take some pride in knowing that American jobs produced the fine flashers that MarCum has given us and that means alot to most people. Built in the USA not mass produced overseas. Correct me if I'm wrong but next year will be 5 years for MarCum and some people thought they wouldn't last... Well I'm here to tell you I trust the dual beam transducer reading on the LX-5 way more than the FL-18. What I said a long time ago still applies today. Get a MarCum and see in detail what your missing!
0 caseymcq
Is this the "extremelly dependable on the ice" that you were talking about? Marcum LX3 Thread Marcum = 6 Vexilar = 1/2 dozen

0 Quackaddict9
Well I am catching fish on the Vexilar so I am fine with it!
0 katoguy
The only thing on my wish list for a new Vex is a movable zoom. I think MarCum has some kind of patent on it, but there may still be ways depending on legalese lingo. Suspended crappies for icefishing! The vex on my boat is always strictly zoomed into the bottom for bass/walleye transition areas. Power is not a concern to me. It is a big selling point for MarCum and other sonar companies, but I believe it is more marketing than anything else per the engineers I have spoken with.Another potential for any sonar company would be operating at a frequency of 455kHz instead of the typical 200. 455kHz would give the greatest definition/resolution, but depth would be limited. (I don't usually fish over 45 FOW).
0 Skunked-Rookie
Quote:Fishingprostore has the LX-3 with TC upgrade for $299.95 free shipping and 1 year factory warranty, while supplies last. They are reconditioned though, thats what worries me. What is the warranty normally when you buy them new?
0 croixeyes
Ive been reading comparison posts all winter and here is my 2cents.Ive been using my Vex since I bought it in 1988 and it has not failed to work once.Im sure their customer service is good but guess what, its best never having to know they have a customer service dept. For the fishing I do my vex works great,I can locate my fish and adjust my presentation to catch them.As far as having multiple fish at the same level and being able to separate them, the one coming up through the hole helps me to do that.Marcum products have made huge leaps the last few years and I like what I see.Im sure vexilar will be doing the same and it goes on and on, advantage us.Remember these are aids to help us catch fish,it doesnt mean if you dont have this latest technology you cant fish as effectivly.Maybe some day when my vex decides to melt, Ill buy new but I dont think Im catching fewer fish cause of it.After all a limit is a limit some times you catch one, sometimes you dont.I do have a question for Marcum owners,Can you hook them up to your boat?Or do they just come in an ice fishing package? You sure can hook them up to your boat. Just need to get the high speed transducer for them. Here's a post from Dave on how to do it complete w/ photos. Marcum LX-3 Ice System - Not just a hard water flasher I've just got to add that you don't see me driving my 1993 Ford Ranger 4x4 around any more just because it was a dependable truck. My new GMC comes complete with the 3rd door, On-Star, sunroof and heated seats. Oh. The 5.3L Vortec has more power than the 4.0L V6 too. (LOL! Just for fun guys. Laugh! Its funny.)
