I am in the process of making a small otter sled with a wind screen that will go around the sides and possibly over the top. The entire front will be open. It will just have a windbreak. What do you think will I need a license?? I just want it for hole-hopping and windy weather fishing when it's too nice to fish inside.

At a local store they had the Nomad 3 sides open in the front sounds similar to what you are talking about basically a wind break and they had a sign posted on it that stated you must have a shelter license with that set-up.....So I would say yes you need a shelter license.

I think it is the point of it - they make you buy a shelter license for a wind break what the ...., they make you buy a license for a sled (flip over)????? I heard it best when a guy I know said they should make you buy a license for a house you can leave on the ice fully erected

It's your call $12.50 or $120 for no shelter license displayed!

I agree with PierBridge... if I recall correctly we had this discussion a year or so ago and found out through someone contacting the DNR that one was required...

You could always e-mail the DNR and get their opinion though, they're really good about responding to e-mails.

Their address is: [email protected]

If you do e-mail the DNR please post what they had to say.. that way everyone knows...
