HELP - Disaster on the news last night

Not sure if any of you guys saw the news last night, but some jacka**es burned down a guys 2 day old fish house. This guy is 22 years old, and suffered 3 strokes. He just learned how to do everything all over again. He had the fish house built to accomodate his needs and then someone burned it down. I don't know about your guys but that is very frusterating to me. Any idea's on how we could possible help this guy out? Maybe contact the news station and toss a few bucks his way toward a new house. Let me know what you all think.

How about a fishing derby in his honor and the proceeds go toward another house for him. I saw the news and I was very upset. I know how I felt when somebody vandalized mine, but I just had to fix it. I can not imagine how he feels wit his new house gone.

Lets do something people!! smile.gif

Sounds like an FM get together in his neck of the woods is in order. Have a good old fashion barn raising. But in this case a fish house raiseing.

Maybe someone in the area this guy lives in could organize something and have FM'ers gather with possibly donated materials or if people can chip in a few bucks to buy whats neccessary. Meet with the guy and find out what his needs are and build him a new house.

I bet people could do it in a day or weekend given the enough help.

Mega good press for FM, although that shouldn't be what its about.

I also seen this on the news a very sad situation. I was also very disgusted when I seen the story. For it to happen at all is disappointing but to have it happen to someone that has been all his health issues and finally learned to walk again that is really sad.

I don’t remember them mentioning where this took place at but I thought it was the metro area somewhere.

I agree it would be really nice if we could organize something for his benefit.

But I am not sure what would be the best way to go about it.

Count me in on whatever's needed to help. Whether it's bying a sheet of plywood, donating a few buck's, helping to build a new shack or all the above. Also, if someone wants to take the lead on this you can count on me to help out on the organizing.

I saw this last night and it made me sick. What really got me was the disappointment in his father's eyes. I just can't believe this. Not a bad idea to raise some $$ to get him a new one. From the looks of what they were cleaning off of the ice, this was not a homemade shack. Does anyone know any of the owners of the professionally manufactured fish houses? Maybe someone can help get a discount. I would love to see him get one the same as if not better then what he had.

  • we are 'the leading edge' HSO Creators

I will set-up a fund with a way for folks to donate on-line. In addition Deitz has suggested that he might set-up a derby possibly on the 25th as another fund raiser.

If anyone knows his address please advise. Also if anyone knows the laws with respect to charitable giving, how much trouble will I get in with the state for doing this?

I'm going to do this and I will pay the consequences. I just want to know what problems I will have to resolve with or pay to Minnesota over this?

I'd like to donate a little money & tackle as well on behalf of Phelps Tackle Company. I contacted KSTP via email to see if there is an address or fund we can send our donations to. As soon as I hear back I will post it on here so we all can donate. Unless of course someone else has taken the initiative to set something in motion.

What a sad story, I'd be absolutely crushed if my dream fish house was burnt down, hopefully we can give a little for this "kid".

They showed some photos of the house and if I remember correctly it was two tone red and black siding. Looked like a nice house.

They should punish these clowns by piling up all their possessions and setting it on fire.

I don't ice fish, but this hits home for me. A good friend of mine had a stroke when we were in high school and lost the use of his left side. He's still not the same in almost 20 years.

So if we are going to build him a new house count me in. I can't give money now, but I can swing a hammer.

Rick

I spoke to Jon's dad today, found out the shack was built by Five Star of Ottertail.

Spoke with one of the owners at Five Star. They are contacting the family to see what Jon needs in a shack, then will get back to me tomorrow afternoon with donation info. I'll let you know when I hear.

Thanks for setting this up Rick!!

I threw in $25.00 and it came up with a Shipping & Handling Fee [note from Rick: This is fixed. No shipping fee or sales tax is being added], I went ahead with the transaction but is this correct or is it more of a “Transaction Fee”? Or is this maybe a PayPal “Processing Fee”?

Other wise is there a physical address to mail donations too?

Thanks Again!!

Keep us posted as to where to send a donation to, I don't have a PayPal account, but I DO want to donate either money, time, or whatever it takes to put this kid in a new fish house. Just a totally sad story, makes me mad to think how this kid must of felt when he saw his new fish house burned to the ground.

    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
