Down to Earth
Gosh I love the off season. Too bad it came way too early for the Pack and Vikes. Anyways I did some mock draft reading this morning and found a couple sites projecting the Packers taking AJ Hawk out of OSU. The really strange thing is a few sites have the Vikings taking Marouney. A few also had them going defense. I know a lot can change between now and April, but it will be fun to see it all pan out. It will be weird though not having to wait around so long for the Packers to make their pick.
Law Firm
Hawk is going to be a stud! I can't wait for the draft! I get more excited for that than I do the super bowl(unless the Vikes would be in it). I hope the Vikings don't take Maroney, I really question how he'll do in the NFL. cybermuskie
I checked out about 5-6 updated sites tonight and most had us picking a RB, some had Marouney, or DeAngelo Williams or White. One even had us picking QB Darrell Hackney, UAB in the second Rd. I love Mock drafts!
Down to Earth
I agree CM, its always fun to speculate. I too have seen a large majority of Mocks predicting the Vikes taking a RB. GB on the other hand has pretty much been a toss up between Hawk and Williams for the most part.
Law Firm
I would like the Vikes to pick DeAngelo Williams. I haven't seen him play that much, but all indications point to him being a stud. I highly doubt that he'll be there when the Vikes pick.....wishful thinking on my part! The Vikings draft in recent years has been a little suspect. T. Williamson won't live up to his top ten billing. I heard Tice wanted to go with Merriman but others in the organization liked Troy better. James showed steady progress all year and could prove to be a solid player. Udeze is what he is, I don't see much upside with him. Kevin Williams is a monster in the middle when healthy and one of the best in the league at his position. So the first round has been a little hit and miss in recent years. LB selections have been terrible....Henderson, Thomas, Nattiel, Rogers, Chukwurah. I know I'm missing some but you would think that at least one of these guys would've panned out (Henderson may be SLOWLY getting there).
Stratosman
Take a look at most first round picks, I'm not sure if the percentage of first rounders that become stars or even solid players is any higher than second of third round. Especially at the QB position. I mean look at the first rounders that are doing something.... Carson Palmer and Big Ben are the only one's I can think of. Even the running back position. I personally think that defensive first rounder are more likely to achieve stud status than offensive players. Just my thoughts though.
IFallsRon
Although the personnel staff is intact, I'm hoping that the new purple coach will prevent any more drafting of the best player available named Dwayne
mplsnative
One thing about Deangelo williams is his size. He's only 5-8 which really hurts his blocking.I also have mixed feelings about Maroney. He's got enough speed to perform on next level. But he's also played in that zone blocking offense that denver uses. That kind of makes every back look good the runner dont have to wait for certain hole to open he just picks one and goes. He might work out here I think thats the kind of scheme were going to run at least i read that some where. But if he goes some place where they like to trap alot or run a power blocking scheme he might struggle. He might take awhile to adjust to waiting for hole to open and hiting it.Also not just bouncing outside every time its not there. FishingDVM
How tall is Marshall Faulk? This guys the real deal. Winners don't always have the perfect size.
bigbucks
Faulk's 5'10", I just looked it up. I like Maroney a lot, I really don't know if that's a homer pick or not, but I think he's the real deal.Size doesn't matter much if they're good enough. Barry Sanders was 5'8", probably still is. He was okay...
mplsnative
yeah but how often does a guy like barry sander come along.Plus barry had the ability to start and stop on a dime. From what i seen this guy aint that type of back he will take alot more hits than sanders did. bigbucks
Once that I'm aware of, I'm not being a smart aleq about his name either. I just mean a guy that good, that small, that runs like that.I don't doubt this guy is no Barry Sanders. I really don't know anything about him, just addressing the height question. cybermuskie
Just looked through that latest wave of Mocks that I could find. The one thing I have seen is that is it still upfor grabs on who we might get. A few had us getting RB's, a couple had us getting Chad Greenway,LB Iowa, which might not be a bad idea if he is there at 17. It all depends on what they do in free agency! Is it draft day yet?? james_walleye
Williams will not be there at #17.
cybermuskie
I just joined ESPN's Insider so I can get the skinny;Mel Kiper Jr. has us taking LenDale White from USC.Mel usually has his wiring straight..I'll keep ya posted, as I am sure it will change! Tripleplay
I know it's early in all of this and I'm sure some of the backs will fall and others will rise after the combine, but if somebody would guarantee the Vikings L. White with their choice I'd be one happy camper! I may change my mind along the way and usually there's a player that freefalls to this area of the draft that I may end up liking more than White but he sure was a productive scorer for USC.Luckily there is still lots of time to totally confuse myself with all of the options and next week I'm sure I'll have a different opinion, but I definitely like the thought of him in a Vikings uniform. cybermuskie
After reading the lastest batch of mocks that are out there, they have no clear cut pick for the Vikes! Until they figure out who they are picking up in free agency, there is no way to say who they are going to pick in the draft. So many holes could be filled with free agency, that they may get to just pick the best player, or a special player, say Vernon Davis type player IF he were to slip!So for now I am not putting any faith in any of the mocks! cybermuskie
By Charles Robinson, Yahoo! Sports Mock Draft 2March 1, 200617. Minnesota Vikings – Ernie Sims, OLB, Florida State. Sims opened a lot of eyes in Indianapolis. After checking in at a slightly more bulked up 5-11 and 231 pounds, he was clocked between 4.46 and 4.51 seconds in the 40 and demonstrated excellent lower body explosion with a 41-inch vertical and 10-5 broad jump. Size is still an issue, but Sims plays big.
nofishfisherman
I have seen several Mock Drafts and they have us taking a RB, either Maroney or someone else whose name is escaping me at the moment.2 drafts I have seen have Maroney going to us or falling all the way to the end of the first round. cybermuskie
Most of what I have seen is the same as what your saying but I thought I would post what yahoo was saying. We do need LB's also, but it all depend what happens with free agency! (I think the other RB's were Lendale White, and DeAngelo Williams. I even saw one that had us taking Vernon Davis TE 6'4 228 Maryland, I would like this guy!)
A R Johnson
I would love it if Vernon Davis falls to us. I watched the combine work outs he was really good at everthing he did. He has speed and size. We can improve our defense through free agency.
