Genz Pack FL-8 problem

Rebeleye

Question

Just purchased and used mine for the first time the other day. Now I'm in the process of charging the battery for the first time as well. I've had the charger on for almost 2 days now.

How long should/could it possibly take for the red light on the charger to come on?

Any help is appreciated, thanks...

Might want to put a voltmeter on and check the voltage when charging. Shouldn't exceed about 15v with the charger connected. Overcharging will fry the battery, so either keep an eye on it or get one of the "smart chargers" that shut off when it reaches full charge.

purchase the battery indicator from a sporting goods store, i got one made by vex from were i bought my unit, this will tell you the status of your battery, also if you bought it new your manual will tell you how long to charge it and you can go online and look op vex to find out what you should do, 2 days is way too long you dont want to damage the battery

What I used to do before I had the Marcum DCS charger was to measure the voltage of the used battery. I would put the charger on for 1 hour. After letting it sit a few hours I would measure the voltage again to see how much charge it took. I then could figure out many volts per hour my charger would charge. I then could measure the used battery and using a timer, charge the battery to full charge and then it would shut off. Using this method I am still using a battery I got with a Clearwater Classic in December of 1995.

There is nothing wrong with your battery.

It can take 2 or so days to charge initially.

Mine was almost 3.

Thanks for all the info everybody! This helps alot.

(bought a battery status indicator)

The red light on the actual charger never turned "bright red." But after putting the status indicator on it says it has a full charge. I guess I'm fine with that as long as it's giving the battery a charge....

Thanks again all....

If you look at the red light closely, and disconnect the charger at the battery, you will see a difference in brightness. Even though your light is red, and reads fully charged on a staus indicator, I'd leave it on for that extra slow rate charge. That's the most important part of the charge. When you disconnect the charger clips at the battery, the red light is the same intensity when disconnected after "fully charged".

You have a resistive battery issue if the charger light doesn\'t show up bright red once charged. I have the same issue with my FL-18. I talked to Pat with vexilar and he determined that my battery had this \"Resistive\" issue. It still works fine. I\'ve only had my FL-18 for a week. I am bringing the battery and charger back to the place I got it tonight for an exchange. Vexilar will also replace it for you right now or after ice season.
