I look at this site just about every day. I don't get out much any more. And, I LOVE fish storys! (Next to fishing of course.) But, I'm not hearing too many! Seems every body talks about everything except what they're catching, ie. Red lake forum, Mille lacs a close second, the rest third! What,? you all getting blanked. Come on get creative! You don't have to spill your guts to say your on fish, or what you've caught beef it up a bit, that just adds to the fun. Just a hint of truth goes a long ways for a fishless ones entertainment. And if fishing ain't entertainment... you'all is liers! 'Sept me! grin.gif

I have one for you...This evening I had my biggest walleye ever on up to the hole. Maybe 7 or 8 lbs. It was the first time out this year so of course I did not have the drag set. I could not get her to turn her head up the hole and after about the 5th time she smacked herself against the bottom of the 7" of ice we have she broke the line.

I don't think I will be able to sleep tonight!!

I usually don't tell fish stories because I only fish Lake Michigan, and not many people here are familiar with that body of water. Anyway, I have been out 4 times this year. Last weekend I fished from 7:30 to 4 and iced around 30 walleyes betwen 12 and 23", and lost 2 at the hole around 30". Also caught a number of small perch. I fished the same spot yesterday from 8-12 and 3-5:30 and caught 8 walleyes between 12 and 17" and about 40 perch up to 11". This morning I fished from 7 to 10 am and caught 4 walleyes from 13 to 19", one 12" perch, and a number of smaller ones. I strongly feel that the difference in numbers between the two weekends was the fact that I was in 12' of water, and the first weekend was foot traffic only, and nobody was within 1/2 mile or so of me. This weekend there are ATV's and snomobiles all over and the fish have moved deeper.

Hey Wables I have the same theory as you, first ice when it's quiet and not alot of people around the fishing is awesome, but then it slowly deteriorates as more people show up with snowmobiles, atv's etc.. more noise less active fish. I find this is always true in water less than 20ft. Not sure if it affects them in 20,30,40ft but I'm guessing it does to some degree. Any thoughts?

Well guys this isn't a big fish story but you might get a kick out of it. I just got a new fishing set up and this is an account of my first time out.

1. Got bait fuel Beer food

2. Met friends at lake

3. Drove down to lake on paved road and on to plowed road on lake

4. Got stuck on lake

5. Got stuck 3 times going up a hill

6. Got auger running

7. Drilled four holes

8. Then drilled 4 more cause I didn't like where the four original holes were.

9. Set up ice house

10. Put my entire leg in ten inch ice hole.

11. Yelled obscenities

12. Packed up

13. Drug (obscenity deleted) ice house up hill

14. Drove home in underwear cause (obscenity deleted) pants were frozen.

15. Two miles from lake called scheels in gf and ordered a (obscenity deleted) 8 in auger. So I don't put my (obscenity deleted)foot down the (obscenity deleted)ice hole again.

16. Sat in a hot bath tub and drank whiskey

Will probably go fishing again today I love the abuse. :-)

As the season progresses, I think you'll start hearing a lot more fishing reports, stories, tactics to handle those aggresive vs. neutral fish.

People in the central to southern part of the state are just starting to venture out safely so I expect most things to start heating up soon. It didn't help this last week we were covered in our first snowstorm of the year and that last 3 straight days mad.gif

Here is one for ya....Was on LOTW the weekend of Dec. 9-10-11 and my group (5) of us did fairly well. My uncle was up there the same weekend (not knowingly until today) and his group of 4 caught just a handful of fish. I just shook my head and wanted to say "We know who the better fisherman is now don't we grin.gif", but I refrained and said "darn, you should have gotten in touch with me and fished out of my holes"...lol cool.gif

Story time:

On Saturday on the big pond on 169, guy I know was jigging and using his underwater camera. Suddenly he says "Oh (explitive for dump)!" I look and he is trying to lure in one of the largest walleyes I have ever seen. It's nose was at the bait and the tail was near the camera...about 36" apart. Obviously the water will distort things some, but it was still a big fish. He got it to bite and got two cranks on the reel and it let go. Hope to see it again this winter, except maybe in my house, not his!

well, even though it was colder than #^@ out there this weekend, I still managed to have a great time on our Frozen ponds.. Saturday I caught one of the biggest bluegills I have caught in the last 365 days.. and Sunday I got to watch Jon Petrrowski pull a muskie through an ice hole while filming a HSO show. Cant wait for that one to hit the FM boards!!!!

Here's a recent fish story. ShawwnyB and I were out last night. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a blip on the screen that flew up the zoom. One second later, I had a bite. Some drag let out, but I was able to get the fish up near the hole. It turned and took off. I said to Shawn, "It looked like a crappie!" It did, too! lol So much line was flying off of my real that I thought for sure that I'd run out!

After 5+ minutes of fighting the fish, I looked down the hole to see my lure stuck to the edge of the ice. Well, that's what I thought, anyway. It was getting dark so it was hard to see. I was just about to reach down to grab the Angel eye jr. when I saw it, the head! Holy cow biscuits, so much for the crappie! Shawn reach down the hole and grabbed a Northern that seemed to take forever to lift out.

Let me tell you, if you're fishing with trebble hookes, you NEED a pliers! We didn't have one crazy.gif so it took a while to free the fish. Comparing it to a 28" rod, the fish was around 33-35" long. Not a bad fish, if I do say so.

After a few pictures on the camera phone (never thought I'd use one before I bought one) we let the fish go. I was using a new rod/reel and had put new line on it. Looking at some of my other reels with half spools, I think it's time to go buy some more line! Half a spool wouldn't have cut it last night!

Last night, my brother and his buddy came up from the cities to stay overnight in the fishhouse. We were having a good time catching walleyes when all of a sudden I hear kerplunk, oh $#!+. Brothers buddy's new cell phone, down the hole, in 20' FOW. We were laughing, he was almost crying. So being the skilled fisherman that I am, I grabbed my lucky rod & spoon, dropped it down his hole and started jiggin. In two minutes, I hooked the bottom part of his phone, by the charger part, and had his phone back up the hole. We dried it out and it worked this morning. Next version is going to have a phone and a 30 incher on it. grin.gif

Heres a story for ya!........The day vefore yesterday i was fishing on a lake in Lakeville with my cousin. We had a couple tip-ups out and were fishing in the house for the tenny-tinny blugills and what not to pass the time between flags. I was using my frabill panfish popper and the genz worm on it with 2 pound test. I could see right to the bottom of the lake which was 9 feet deep. Was jiggin for a while watching all the bluegills under, by my bait when all of a sudden they parted and here comes this decent sized bass right to my bait, whithout hesitation *WHACK* and i set the hook. Then i realized i had 2# test and was like GREAT! The drag peeled off that thing like a bad habit, and i thought for sure i was going to run out. Time and time again i got the thing to the bottom of the hole and then it would take off again. Before i knew it five minutes had passed just trying to get the thing tired out and finally i saw it below the ice and reached down to grab the thing. ABOUT TIME, i pulled it up and measured it to find out it was about 17" right around a 3 pounder. That was the most fun fight i have ever had, and it came on my smallest rod i own. I found myself wanting it to happen again later then day, but it never happened. Although i did see a northern come check my tinny bait out (heart started to pump when that happened too) but never got him to bit cuz i had a small bluegill on:(
