World Record Muskie...

Recommended Posts

Tough topic this is young jedi smile.gif To me it seems so hard to prove or disprove a fish that is long dead and gone. True some ethic issues have came to be concerning the anglers but "what did those fish truly weigh when they came out of the water?" I know one thing, I wouldn't want to sit on a board or panel that has to discredit or tear apart a Musky fishing legend or some angler that just may have a record. That would be a tough job to perform on theories, hunches, a few witnesses and a stack of photos.

I've always wondered about those records...things were'nt as closely, or accurately monitored as they are now.

I wondered about the huge smalley and the mongo walleye being caught in a southern lake? Was'nt it something like Old Hickory Lake or something like that?

Have any even approaching that size been caught since? Do they still get really big SM bass and walleyes out of the lakes where the records were supposedly taken? Anything that would indicate that the lake has the potential to even grow a fish that size?

The largemouth and the muskie were 2 other types of fish I have wondered about? I think the LM bass recored got thrown out a while back, did'nt it? I know there was some controversy about it?

I'll tell ya, I don't think to hard on this stuff and certain don't make it my campaign to fight, but I have wondered about the validity of those records?

Maybe a new catagory should be started, pre 19 whatever and post?

Although there is a lot going on about this topic right now I wonder when the Minnesota Muskie record is going to fall? We are truely blessed to have such good Muskie fishing here and there are a lot of lakes that are capable of putting out a new record.

Winnie, Cass, Bemidji, Leech, Mille Lacs, Mississippi River, any others? Which is it going to be?

When we look at these different lakes does one look at the forage base to see which is most likely to put out the new record? We need to see a fish with both length and more importantly girth. Mille Lacs definately has the girth area down.

That is how I chose my lakes; big water with big baitfish. "Big enough to burn diesel" is gonna need some diesel. That is why I really lean towards Mille Lacs, that fish could spend it's entire life in a 100 yard circle out deep, never bothered by boats. Just lays around, chomps a ciscoe from time to time and gets fat.

I am the guy that caught this fish. It was 52 1/2 x 28 1/2. You do the math. It was the most awesome fish I have ever entcountered in all my years of muskie fishing. I released it. I'm not saying where it is still swimming. I still can't get the smile off my face. grin.gif
