Attention all bass anglers - Input required for bass season extension

My guess is that would be the likely scenario. Open up a couple of weeks early in a C&R only way. But we, the discussion group who wrote the petition, thought the DNR would more likely respond if it were actually more beneficial to the fishery than the current regulations.

Petitions are free. Create one and lets see if the DNR will consider it. Can't hurt!

Just curious if you eat bass, and thats the reasoning for the C/R propoal being too long.

Yes I eat bass ... and walleye,northerns,panfish... but when I do decide to keep fish, I keep enough for that nights dinner and the rest are released. Nothing goes in the freezer.I fish a lot of bass tourneys and spend alot of time on the water. I very seldom see anyone filling there livewells or stringing bass. Most people are too preoccupied with the panfish or walleyes. The true fishermen practices c/r or selective harvest. It's the slobs that don't give a rip about limits, seasons or have to bring home a cooler full of fish to show off that we have to worry about. No amount of laws or limits will stop that type of person anyway.

On a related note...In the new Bassmaster Magazine, there is a blurb about Michigans season. They (the Anglers) are trying to get the DNR to open it up to C&R before the season starts. Looks like it will pass and could be allowed as soon as this next season. Let's hope MN will follow quickly!

Instead of a C&R early season, it should be a 20" minimum size limit for the early season. This would protect alot of breeder females since there are few 20"+ bass. Just in case a magical 24" pops on my lure.
