Dance's Eel

Anyone remember the "Dance's Eel" from the early 80s? I had a huge pike swim off with mine a few years ago and bought a whole unopened box on HSOList. I just used one last weekend and caught a few. It is still one of my favorite lures of all time.

Ray, it kinda looked like a small smiley face ball with a small lip then a 3-4" tail that came off the back..

I finally found a pcit online for you ray..

they were made by Keeper bait co. I believe.. which went out of buisness quite a while ago I think?.. I could be wrong.

I actually did use them years ago. They difinitely were different. The tail really swayed in the breeze, so to speak. My memory of them is that they were a fairly good bait, except I had a poor hook setting perecentage. That one treble didn't quite cut the mustard. Also remember getting quite a few toothy critters with em.

Trucker Jim, you must have wrote for In-Fisherman in 1980 something. I remember the write-up in an article about bass fishing and it was almost EXACTLY what you said about hooking percentage. I have had the same problem. I still use them though, more for nostalga than anything. the "DANCE'S CRAW" was also availible. Anyone have that one?

slick,

We were almost neighbors in 1974. I lived on the corner of Maryland and Sylvan until 1974.

I spent most of my development years somewhat attached to Rice Street. Went to HS at St. Bernards, worked at what was once Rent-All Minnesota, and then worked at Gimps until about 1991.

I have no idea how this relates to the Dance's Eel, but it sure brings back a pile of memories.

i had a true neighborhood bait store a few blocks away when I was small. I remember all the jigs on a few foam boards that hinged to let you see both sides. no packaging, bought your daredevil spoons hanging from an old wire basket. it will never be like that for my kids, they might have fond memories of Gander Mountain or Fleet Farm.....

Marine General here in Duluth is still that way. I took my daughter there this summer and when we turned into the lake superior spoons I got an awe from her as there are thousands of spoons hanging from peg hooks in hundreds of colors. I'm sure that many a troller walks through there with the deer in the headlight look.

Ha!!! The only bass lures I have in my tackle box are the Dance's Eel & Dance's Craw!! LOL!

I bought them when I was a youngin' and they have never seen the water if I reckon!

Just never got into that bassin' thing. grin.gif

BobbyBass....

That back wall in Marine is a sight to behold! I love it and simply stand in awe of it every time I stop. If a guy bought just one of each in each color available the tab would be outrageous and the sheer weight would sink a good lund. Love that place....and it is enough to act as my "childhood" dream center.

that's the feeling I remember at alost any bait store when I was a kid. This turned out to be a good thread. How about this one; Does anyone still have a chapstick looking tube of "Chum'n'Rub"?? remember the ad, "So potent fish will bite on a bare hook!

I was at the weigh-in for the 1995 or 1996 Bassmaster top 100 on 'tonka and heard a great helicopter lure story. Fish Fishburne(now the bassmaster emcee) was still fishing competitively back then. He had the smallest limit of bass I've ever seen come out of 'tonka. He knew Rolan Martin was within ear shot as he grabbed the microphone and announced "this is what you catch when you fish nothing but helicopter lures all day long!"

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
