kiefer06
Are there any suggestions to a good semi cheap ($30-$100)walleye rod? G Loomis, Fenwick, St. Croix, etc. what do you like and why?
Deitz Dittrich
I think it really depends on what you want to do with the rod. TO be honest there are quite a few rods that fit the bill of a decent rod for under $100.. I think the importnant thing is.. a rod is a tool.. I would not use the same rod for jigs as I would for lindy rigging.. Like I would not use a flat head screwdriver when a phillips is needed...Shimano CompreSt.Croix Premierare both under $100 and are great rods.. Also look up Midwest Rod and Reel they are a sponsor of this site.. they do custom rods, and can make pretty much whatever you want... They make keep you in that $100 range as well and give you exactly what you need!http://www.midwestrodandreel.com/
ZOKU
I can vouch for Midwest Rod & Reel... excellent workmanship and great customer service!! My wife got me a 7'0" Medium Heavy spinning reel for my birthday in August. I'd recommend them!!
andy j
I agree with Dietz, THe Premiers are a good rod for the $. And the compres with a lifetime overthecounter warrenty for the less the $100 is a good rod especially now that they have faster actions. Another good walleye rod for the $ is the gander mountain Pro Select rods. They are lightweight, fast actions, fuji components and run for $60. Northlander
As was stated earlier Midwest Rods makes awesome rods. May cost a bit more but well worth it. If your going to spend $100 you might as well spend a bit more and get a custom rod EXACTLY how ya want it.If thats too much $ the rods mentioned as well as Fenwicks and Diawa have been good to me in the past. Captain B.R.K
AJ throwing a line about the Gander Mountain rods because he use to work there and that's all he knows (I can't say much either because I worked with AJ) In all seriousness, I would definately look at the GM rods! For the price, the quality is there plus GM is very generous with their warranty program.
Borch
Yes the Gander and Scheels rods are very good and come with a no questions over the counter exchange if something should happen to them. The other rods mentioned are very good as well.

Tyler Holm
Gary Roach series of the Berkley Lightning Rod. I have 2 of them and love them. 6'3" & 6'6" medium light rods. The have a soft tip which is perfect for jigging and yet a solid enough backbone to pull crankbaits. They might be harder to find at your Gander or Scheels stores. Might have to go to a smaller specialty store or online. Around $65 bucks.
jigginjim
I work at Gander mountain and use gm rods. I would seriously look at the tourynment series rod. They are light weight and hold up really well. also have a 2yr warranty.I also would use 6ft med. for jigging, and a 7ft med. for rigging. The 7ft makes a good slip bobber rod. Rivernut
I'm a big fan of the G.M. spinning rod's. I am not sure which one it is, but the light grey one's are really nice. I use a 6ft. med. and 7ft. for rigging also.
slick814
I've got a Cabela's Fish Eagle rod and love it!! I know that the G-Loomis & St. Croix are quality rods, but they can also be more than the $100 that you're looking to spend as your max. Haven't had the opportunity to use or deal with Midwest Rod & Reel, but have seen many great comments & compliments about them, so you may want to check them out. ANd Shimano makes good uality gear in all of it's price ranges. Go to a store, check out the selection, and go with what feels best in your hand. That's my honest recommendation. kslipsinker
I work with Jim at Gander, and think we should mention the new Gander Ultimate series at under $100. I own three Tourney rods, and they are very nice. I picked up a medium heavy Ultimate with a fast tip as a worming rod for bass. I have to say it is the best rod in the arsenal right now. It is by far a great bang for the buck!
