Disgruntled lakeshore owners...

Ufatz I really doubt it would be me they would be picking up, but thats besides the point, the point is you "rich" lakeshore owners have absolutely no right to get [PoorWordUsage]ed about someone fishing "your" dock. Its not yours after you put the darn thing in a public water, Rich Poor whatever you have no right to take any action on anybody!

It is legal to step on the dock if you are wading and its blocking your way down the shore, I dont have a clue if its legal to step on it from your boat! I would geuss it is since its a semi premanent fixture on public property, however I would remove any lures caught up (or try my best) in a dock just for safety sake (kids playing in the water around the dock couldnt be good)

RiverRat, a dock's private property just like the boat that may be tied up to it.

Would you go in someones boat if your lure got stuck in it?

Go in my boat at my dock and you could have company

before I came out to greet you.

Dogs (or a lot of people)don't understand anyones good or bad intentions,

Proud%20to%20be%20an%20American.JPG

People that fish at my dock have told me how nice

the dog's are until they get close to my boat, then

instinct comes into play.

One likes to sleep in the bow and/or watch people

fish 40 feet away it. Come close she then goes on the alert

I've been told, then the nice doggie get's a little edge on her.

People are the same way if they have had something

stolen from their boat, dock or yard. Hard as it may be to believe there

are bad people out fishing looking for a mark. Not everyone with a

lake home is rich enough to afford to be ripped off.

See you out on the river.

Okay fellas. I promised Ray I would leave the Forum and I am surely out of my element. But as I leave let me tell you that ALL my comments were tongue in cheek and light-hearted. It is sad to witness the over-reaction, vituperative comment and apparent bitter envy and anger that resulted.

Everyone in here should go back and read those messages again and think about it.

Farewell ol' pals.

I dont have one bit of envy for one of you "rich" people that live on a lake (U Fatz started the rich quote not me) However I am a little bit envious of people that live on the big river! (that would be you dog smirk.gif) You might have misread my post to, I very rarely fish docks and when I do I have the utmost respect for peoples property, I understand why people get edgy about there personal property, because I do to! I am not saying that I would go and stand on somebody's dock just because I may have the legal right to do so, but I do think that if you break a lure off on a dock you should do your best to retrieve it, hooks dont feel to good when there wedged in a little kids back or forearm or whatever ( I speak from experience on this)

if you state that your brother shoots people off there butt seats with a potato gun then I am gonna take that as literal! I cant see a smile or a smirk in your type so I take it as literal, and I think a lot of other people do to!

Talk about over-reaction! Are you serious about leaving the Fishing MN forum from this goofy passtime drivel? Don't let it get to you.. nothing wrong with sharing ideas and viewpoints... in fact.. I have to say I myself am a disgruntled lakeshore owner... why? Because I don't own any lakeshore! smile.gif Fish on.. the white stuff comes all too soon now.. mad.gif

RR you're welcome to stop by if you make it down here with the high water. I didn't misread your post just thought you wanted clarification. Let me know the day before to make sure I'm home or give yell when you're out front, might even be a longneck in it for ya. grin.gif

There's sign with a Buffalo on it, on the shoreline if I don't have my boat out. frown.gif

Ufatz- Ray didn't ask you to leave.. he meerly said, please behave yourself... Or leave... I myself, and so can you. Choose to behave. If you re-read, I was amazed at the somewhat threatening remarks... if not by you, by your brother. I dont think Ray was out of line at all. I commend him for making the comments!

We in the bass forum and at FM.com love it here, the more the better...Lets just not throw threats around.

I myself, as one of the mods of this forum, have not really liked this post.. Expecially since it has had the most hits in a long time. Can we please get back to talking fishing and not what we are not fishing.

Ufatz-please know you are welcome back any time.. but leave the threats in your mind and not in type. Even if it is a joke.

As a new member, I respect the wishes of the moderators, but I do have to ad that being on both sides of this discussion, I think a little courtesy - as well as empathy - for dock/lakeshore owners (in addition to other anglers)goes a long way. I've been a non-participant in bass tournaments, have had people cast within a few feet of me and didn't appreciate it. Yet, I've seen participants go out of their way not to get too close, and I really appreciated it. I know it doesn't seem like much, from the angler's point of view, but being a little extra nice to people on docks and shoreline can improve the reputation of all anglers. It doesn't "cost" more to be nice, and the returns can be significant, even if they aren't something you can quantify. I consider courtesy to be part of conservation - it's all about preserving our natural resources for future use. Keeping property owners happy may not be as important as keeping used fishing line out of the lake (or river), but it will pay off just the same. And, by the way, not all lakeshore owners are "rich" - some us work extra hard to keep what little shoreline we have. Envy can go both ways, and whenever I see fancy bass boat screaming across the lake, I wonder who is better off, because that's what I gave up to have my little lake place.

Sorry, DD, just had to get that out of my system - I'll shutup (on this thread) now.....

I'm a big fan of old warbirds, especially the P-51 Mustang. The Merlin is a supercharged 1700+ ci V-12, made by Rolls Royce during WW II for the British Spitfire, but also used in the US Mustang - puts out something like 1650 HP, and turns a four-bladed 12-foot diameter prop. That was a pretty hot airplane for its' time, kind of like the equivalent of an F-16 nowadays. I fly Cessnas and Pipers, not exactly in the same league, but still very fun.

I've lost more jigs under your dock than any other dock in that lake. I think you have strategically piled rocks to create an absolute tackle siphon.

Well, after spending all my extra $$$$$$ on muskie baits, not much left over for bass baits. Lots of freebies in the rocks. I found out going barefoot finds them quicker. shocked.giflaugh.gif

Mr. Pike, feel free to loose some Senkos there too! wink.gif

Might be up the weekend of the 30th to get those docks out. You can have your lures back if you help pull the docks out. grin.gif

Lots of good tips and info shared here on all aspects of fishing, or, in the process of fishing. Sometimes we need a little more humor and entertainment to lighten things up a bit.

I agree with you about being courteous. If someone is standing on their dock, or fishing off their dock, I'd just pass by at a far enough distance not to bother them and wave. It's the guys that come running out of their house screaming at you and such for fishing their docks that cause the problems that this thread is talking about.

I just payed for a sidewalk in front of my house. I sure would feel stupid telling people to stay off it.

I think it works the same as the boulevard in front of my house. I do not own it. I must take care of it. I have to have the sidewalk. But if others use it without damaging it, all I can do is say; HELLO! grin.gif

They should make it a law that all docks with carpet need to have snagproof carpet. laugh.giflaugh.gif

I went to Flying Cloud a few years back to a air show with my father (a B-17 pilot of WW-II). So I know what you mean a differant league. You look at Bear Cat, a P-51 Mustang, an Avenger. Then you turn the corner and see a Piper and OH ooo.gif You do see a differance.

It was a real treat to see a Bear Cat.

Merlin - welcome! I had the privelage during my time in the air force of parking, chocking and safing a P-51, as well as a Corsair (the folding wing variety) during an air show and MAN!, moving from servicing those birds back to banging on my A-10s was like going home with Kathy Bates after dancing with Angelina Jolie! Nice planes.

There is a homeowner near where I live who puts cmu's (cinder blocks) in the 2' deep channel into the lagoon she lives on. Prop traps. I've never seen her do this, but sometimes the block is in the water, and sometimes a greenish, slimey block is on her beach.

I know this is off topic, but...... Speaking of Bearcats, "Rare Bear", a racing Bearcat just won the Reno Air Races. I was there at Reno once, and what a rush for any motorsports fan! Anyone who likes big engines and going fast really needs to go to Reno - there's nothing else like it.

Reading that some (Contact US Regarding This Word) would put cinder blocks in the water reminds me that once in a while pilots find bullet holes in their airplanes. Stupidity.

Last week in a tournament, a German short-hair (a dog, not a spud gun owner) was on the dock wanting to get at my partners spinner-bait when all of a sudden he hooks a three pounder. Out of the water comes the head shaking bass, in jumps the dog!! Hurry! Get the net "Houston", we've got company!! True story. Weighed the fish in along with a 6.60 big bass for 15.48 lbs.

Yes, dock owners can be pretty rude at times. A good freind of mine said it best, "be the best well behaved Bass-fisherman that dock owners meet." Avoid confrontation if at all possible. If that doesn't work just remind them that you now know the place that they live and sleep (this will usually make them feel like thinking twice about rule #1, avoid confrontations, but with bass dudes).

Thats all until next time boys and girls.

Good night,

Dan
