I just called Lakes Gas yesterday in the Alex area to get my tank topped off and I was quoted $1.449/Gallon CASH (Or check as long as you pay it with in 10 days)

I am not sure if that is a good price or not. The contracted price was 5 or 6 cents higher. But then you get better terms like 2 or 3 payments. I told them I wanted it the cheapest way possible and I don't have a problem paying cash so that is what I did.

What other prices are out there???

Do not take this to the bank but the company I work for is heavily involved with the energy commodities as it pertains to fertilizer prices. Energy price is a huge part of fertilizer manufacturing. The buzz in the industry is that there is a greater chance of downward movement with energy (Natural Gas, LP etc) than there is for upward movement. At the price level you have been quoted I would be inclined to purchase as I need it at this time rather than lock in. However, with more possible hurricanes or terror attacks who knows? In the end if you won't sleep at night for not having the price locked in then buy. In reality the chances of seeing $1.00 LP by spring will not happen. But 1.20 could be a reality. At .30 per gallon depending on the gallons you use may not be the end of the world.

Good Luck

Just heard on the news yesterday, natural gas is expected to go up 70% this winter, propane probably would'nt be to far away from that. I would so some price shopping on propane as prices can vary from dealer to dealer.

Just thanking my lucky stars we had the insight to go with off peak elec. heat.

backlash, you are right about that number but the one thing the media does not understand is that natural gas has already rose to those levels from last year. The futures markets are already there. The media is stating that when people receive their bills for natural gas they could be 70% higher than they were last year. This is not highly likely because most utility companies have locked in prices probably somewhat lower than these levels. The same is true for LP. That increase is already there in the futures markets which is how most companies price their cash price. The point is that there will not be 70% increases from levels that the market currently is at. It is more likely levels could drop excluding more hurricanes or other supply concerns.
