NFC North Preditions

I am going to try and start a rational thread here and see how it goes.

What is everyone's realistic precictions on the NFC North this year?

I think it may be a very tight division, especially in the middle of the pack but am taking a best guess with....

Vikes - Team w/ most offseason improvement in the need areas

Detroit - Only if Harrington is finally a adequate QB

GB - Good offense, line unsettled, no D changes worth noting

Chicago - they are the Bears and Grossman is gone

Way back when this topic first came up I went Vikes, Pack, Lions, Bears. Now after 3 preseason games I think I need to revise. So hear you go with the shocker.

1. Bears - If Urlacher stays healthy they have the best defense in the division. Also this pick is contingent on the assumption that Orton continues to progress as he has in the preseason. He has looked good and if he can lead this offense this should be a good team. If Orton flops in the regular season I drop them down behind the Vikes and Lions.

2. Vikings - The only reason I'm not putting them #1 is the lack of running game I've seen in preseason, Birk out for the season, a lot of penalties and I still have questions about the defense. Probably though they end up winning the division.

3. Lions - I'm still not convinced Harrington is the QB this team needs. Also seeing the Rams blow up on their defense Monday night brings in questions as well. They need to rest heavy on the legs of Kevin Jones. If Jones has a big year and Harrington proves he can belongs as a starting QB in the NFL they could challenge for the division.

4. Packers- Defense is still VERY POOR and the O-Line doesn't appear to be able to absorb the loss of the 2 guards as well as I originally thought or hoped. Could end up being a long year for us Packer Backers. Hopefully NFL Parity can keep us in enough games to pull out some extra wins.

I agree with most of your thought on this, but I still will put the Vikings ahead of the Bears. And as for Parity, I think it will end up like this:

grin.gifVikings 11 - 5, explosive offence and much improved defence.

crazy.gifBears 9 - 7, Best defence in the division, QB and consistantcy questions outway any promise shown in the preseason.

confused.gifLions 7 - 9, they're the Lions - a lot of hopes and dreams, but not a whole lot there to back them up.

frown.gifPackers 7 - 9, aging QB, O-line is disjoined and needs time to recover from the losses, D looks like the Vikings D from the last few years, potential but no production.

I'm not, in the words of PA, a great football mind, but I am picking the Vikings to go 14-2 with the two possible losses coming from Baltimore and Pittsburgh. I think that they will finally beat the Giants in the Meadow Lands in early November. Seems like that place has been a curse for the Vikings in past years whether it be the Giants or the Jets, but with a November 13th game slated for the Giants they will take them.

Vikes start 6-0 go on a 4 game losing streak, and then end strong to win the division.

Packers even though weaker, still have a good core of coaches and presence so they will take second.

Lions have a team with talent but thats it and will only win 6-7 games on just talent and lose the rest because they are the lions.

Bears have close to nothing and are relying fully on a rookie running back or a sub par back.

Can anybody say eternal preseason optimism. Where ever you guys are getting the unlimited supply of prozac, please let me know.

I'd just like to point out that you guy lost one of the best receivers in the game and your starting center. No doubt D is much better but not Raven-like, or Philly.

It will be interesting to see how this year plays out.

DTE

Can you imagine how big of a mess that would be with all the tie breakers for the division. I have no clue how you would sort that out. Or even worse how we would be able to pick who was better in all our razzing.

I think the NFC North is going to have a rough go of it this year, all around. It would be nice to get some good draft pics for a change. Maybe a few good guys prospects on D, that would be a good start.

I'm starting to like this Bears pick more and more.
