ATM
I am an avid duck hunter who is just starting to do a little more goose hunting. I am looking for an easy to use goose call for under $50. I bought a buck gardner goose call last year and was not happy with it. would you guys suggest the calls that are similar in size to the duck calls or the longer style ones. Thanks for help in advance Adam

cmoredrakes
i'd go with the "Bad Medicine" hitman from H.S. {hunter's specialties} calls. they got 'em at gander mountain right now for $26. it is a short reed call that has awesome control and volume. Another good choice is the canada hammer 2 also by buck gardner calls. I have one and i can call geese into a pond now just practicin' with it. [without deeks} put out, just callin'. that call runs about $20 dollars at gander mountain also.

mwktrapper
Tim Grounds Supermags. He makes a poly call that should sell in that range, or else you can find a used wood pro supermag sometimes for that price. Most short-reeds come from the Grounds design. Zink, Foiles, and other short reeds were actually taught to turn from Grounds himself. Not only are these probably the best sounding calls on the market, Grounds has better customer service than I've ever seen. Give him a call and he'll actually blow his calls over the phone for ya and answer any question you have.
benelli_dude2002
I have a Primos Shaved reed canada goose call. It was about 20 bucks and it came with a instructional CD. I just got into goose hunting a couple years ago so I dont know too much about calls but I do know that Tim Grounds makes good call cuz a friend of mine uses one but he paid 100 bucks for it and just recently he got a new one ( not sure what make though ) and he paid 150 bucks for that one. Think I will stick with the lower price calls. But to each his own. Good luck in what you choose. Brian
Nova
Go to the Tim Grounds web site. He has a ton of calls in all price ranges and they are truely the best calls. I agree 100% on the great customer service also. I have 2 of his calls and love them.
eyepatrol
Tim Grounds fan here also. I've got the Tim Grounds 1/2 breed goose call (or whatever you call it...can't remember the exact name as I bought it a few years ago now). It's great for various pitches, volumes, clucks, etc. I used to own some other flute calls and they had a real "plastic" sound to them. The Grounds call I've got now is just awesome and I've had so much better success getting geese to come in.Takes some practice and getting used to, no doubt. Took me a full year to become decent with it, and there is still learning to be done. I used to have his tape for it, but lost it and really need to buy another one as I know there are other things I need to do to improve my calling abilities.Cost when I bought it about 5 years ago was about $60, which is $10 more than what you're willing to spend. I'm going to check out his HSOforum though as I'd really like to have his instructional tape/cd.Once you learn this call though, it is very easy and very fun to use! Bushwacker
I would buy a Winglock Delrin original or Long Neck for sure. Rick Perry makes top notch calls and his customer service is second to none.
riverrat56
If your not going to hunt that much, I would recommend a Big River flute call, easy to blow, sounds good, and is cheap (24 bucks).

Mr.Seaguar
Buy a used call! They are very common. Try Flocknockers HSOforum to locate any call you want, deep, high pitched, easy clucker, whatever. You can save a fortune and get custom calls. Nova
Basscatcher, I am a huge Tim Grounds fan, but I have to send you to another source for the video. Shawn Stalh's honker talk is way more helpful for blowing short reed goose calls. I have both of the videos and the Shawn Stahl one is unbeatable. I will never buy anything but a Grounds call, but I wasn't impressed with his instructional video.
Nova
ATM, the half breed by Tim Grounds is $50 and it a very good call, easy to use, and pretty versatile. It's a short reed call, but not hard to learn. My 14 year old sons each have one and can call fairly good with them. They should have them at the game fair. ironman
I just got a "Honky Tonk" came with dvd. It's a short reed and as far as I know it sounds good. I suck at it. This will be my first year hunting geese. I got the duck calling down right away...pretty good at that. I'm really struggling with this goose calling though.
