Kurt Busch leaving Roush

Recommended Posts

CONCORD, N.C. -- Roush Racing announced Tuesday that Kurt Busch has advised team officials that he has signed with another team commencing in 2007. The name of the team is not known.

Busch also requested a release from his contract for 2006. Due to sponsor and team considerations, Roush Racing said no decision on that request will be made for an indefinite period.

The 2004 ChampKurt Busch says he is living a dream racing Nextel Cup

The defending Nextel Cup champion, Busch currently is fifth in points, 277 behind leader Tony Stewart.

Busch has 13 career Cup victories in 171 starts, with 41 top-five finishes and 72 top-10s.

After running a full Truck Series schedule in 2000 and finishing second in points, Busch made the full-time jump to Cup in 2001. He won his first race March 24, 2002, at Bristol.

Roush Racing, which recently announced it had signed Jamie McMurray for 2007, also has Mark Martin, Matt Kenseth, Greg Biffle and Carl Edwards in its Cup stable.

However, Kenseth was upset after the McMurray announcement -- not so much that McMurray was joining the team, but rather in the way news leaked of the signing.

"I just felt like being [at Roush] for eight years that they'd at least have talked to me. And [Greg] Biffle, too. He's been there seven years," Kenseth said. "So I figured they'd at least have talked to some of the guys who've been there about who you want for a teammate.

"I think it happened fairly fast, and on the 42 side they leaked it to the press. So I'm sure they were probably going to talk to us before they made an announcement, but to this day nobody's still talked to me about it. So it is a little frustrating."

I agree on the last part....just glad he's driving a Dodge and not a Chevy! I had some bad feelings when I initially heard he left Roush and there is that open spot at DEI......NOOO!!! He should fill the #2 seat pretty well....one puke filling the seat of another puke.

Like the guy or not, he can drive a car like few can. Thats why they call him CHAMPION! Out of the 43 guys that start every race I believe there are only 5 other champions out there. Pretty exclusive crowd, even if you don't like him.

I can only hope he lands in the Bow-Tie camp. I've always hated that puke! Them big dumb floppy ears and his smug attitude, I usually want to jump through the T.V. and smack him.

Oh good it's not just me..... grin.gif

Never said he couldn't......but personality goes a long ways. His interviews are terrible and sound corny. gag!

And his head looks like a taxi cab coming down the street with both doors open. I like the guy, but he could never catch a break. He used to drive like Dale Sr. (agressive) and speak his mind and everyone hated him for it. He then does a 180 and goes totally PC and everyone hates him for it. I bet if he was going to the 15 car he wouldn't be the most hated driver anymore, which is sad because IMO you shouldn't like/dislike a guy for who/what he drives. It changes and if you don't like a guy when he's in brand "A" you can't like him in brand "B". He's still the same guy. And vise-versa.

I pose this question as irony but also with a little bit of seriousness:

Will Miller still sponsor that #2 with a guy named Busch driving it? He's even got the correct spelling for crying out loud. He may as well change his first name to Anheuser.

Maybe a slick marketing campaign. Just my thoughts for the day.

Good point! As serious as sponsors are in this age of exposure, I wouldn't put it past them. I have the same ideas about McMurray driving the Viagra car. Viagra and a young driver just don't seem like a good fit.

Viagra's contract ends this year so you won't see McMurry in the bonermobile.

Maybe they should change the Busch series to the Miller series and put Busch beer on the #2 car. Maybe even sponsor a race and have Busch win the Busch race with the Busch car??

Do you guys think he will do as good in that car as he has at Roush?

Geeez what you miss when you are gone on vacation for a week!!!

The best part of this I think is hearing Rousch talk about how he has commitments with Busch and expects him to honor that just after he's trying to steal McMurray away from Ganassi the exact same way! What a two faced jerk. I've never liked that Jack Rousch, always the first to whine when things don't go his way and now he cries when someone does to him the same thing he did to someone else a couple weeks ago. How poetic!

Been pretty clear to me over the years that he really rides the hot hand at his place and ignores the rest. The motor deal last year showed that. The chosen drivers got the good stuff for weeks before the rest did... I would think that may be cause for some of the fighting. Kenseth I keep hearing isn't happy there either.

Sounds just like Jeff Gordon.

Lawdog,

Due to your being on vacation, I'll excuse you for not keeping up on the facts. I hope you had a great time.

Before the start of last sunday's race, They (Hammond, I think) interviewed J. Rousch about this very subject. It was a lenthy interview, but he clearly stated the difference between the McMurry deal, and the Busch deal, was that J. Rousch has NOT asked Gannassi to release McMurry for 2006. On the other hand, Penski has asked Rousch to release Busch for 2006.

If anyone is doing any "stealing", it would be Penski.

As an 8 yr. member of Rousch racing, Kenseth is not happy for being left out of the loop.

As is 7 yr. member Biffle.

Facts??? Jack Rousch's covering up for himself is not "facts". The facts are this, Rousch signed a driver for '06 knowing he didn't have a driver for '05 and that the driver he was signing might be under contract to someone else. He said and his new driver said they hoped he'd be there in '05 but that he'd have to work something out if he wasn't due to this other contract. He didn't ask to have him released straight forward and above board, he instead tried to back Ganassi into doing it by thinking he wouldn't want the lame duck. He started this stealing driver deal this year whether he asked overtly to have McMurray released or not, the signing did it. There was NO doubt based on McMurray and Rousch's actions they were both hoping he'd be in that 6 car next year and we all know it. Now poor Mark Martin who wanted to retire and ran a year long retirement promotion gets brow beat into coming back by Rousch. Just generally no class by that guy!!!

You seem clueless Bill, what did Jack ever do for you to make you so blindly loyal and trusting of him? Or maybe you are just that naive...

Isn't it a fact he signed McMurray for '07 without a driver for '06 since Martin was retiring? Gee, I sure thought so, and yet somehow there are "no facts" in my post??? HMMMMMMMM

And I agree Penske stole Busch, just like Rousch stole McMurray.
